Constantine Pictures' rebooted live-action film Resident Evil: Welcome to Raccoon City debuted stills, showing characters such as Claire, Chris, Gill, Leon, and Wesker. The film will be released in North America on November 24. Director Johannes Roberts (Deep Sea Escape, Kill Strangers Only) reveals that the film is based on The Resident Evil 1st and 2nd generation games, set in Raccoon City in 1998.
IGN interview details:
The rebooted live-action movie has no connection to previous films, inspired by capcom's Resident Evil game and previous old-school movies
Returning to the horror roots of the series, deeply influenced by Resident Evil 2: Remake, I wanted to capture the atmospheric tone of this generation of games, which was very cinematic
Capcom works closely with the production team
No drone footage, no crazy CG footage
Iconic monsters will appear
Lisa Trevor will be more realistic
The rebooted live-action film Resident Evil: Welcome to Raccoon City will document how Raccoon City transformed from an industrial city into a dying Midwestern town and became the high-flashpoint of the T-virus outbreak.
"The previous (biochemical) films were very bright and shiny, and this one was dark and dirty, shot entirely at night. The rain kept falling and the town was shrouded in fog. ... I've been influenced by films like Exorcist and Exorcist 3), Bloody Ghost, and The Shining. You can really feel the texture of this movie. There is nothing high tech in this town. Felt shabby. I wish Raccoon City could be a bit like the town in Deer Hunter; A ghost town that has been forgotten by the world. The structure of the whole film is definitely influenced by "Blood Spatter 13 Police Station". ”
