Today, the tenth generation sonata has come to us, and in the previous test drive, my colleagues have analyzed it in depth. So today we got its test drive again, and then we will test it through PT8-120 to see how it performs.
At present, there are 5 models of 2020 Sonata on sale, of which 3 are equipped with 1.5T engines, matching 7-speed dual-clutch transmissions, and the remaining 2 models are equipped with 2.0T engines, matching 8-speed manual transmissions, with a price range of 16.18-20.58 million yuan, and today we are test-driving the top of the whole series.
Appearance: Attractive player
For the appearance of Sonata, I believe that the vast majority of consumers will output their own views and judge why it is like this, in fact, I want to say that it is really attractive. Compared to the previous generation, the new Sonata has changed dramatically, changing the calm style and becoming young and sporty, which definitely gives you a bright feeling.
In the front part of the face, the large-area intake grille occupies the entire visual center of gravity, showing a downward pressure trend, and the internal three-dimensional grille is made of piano paint material, which has a very good texture. The most characteristic place is the design of the headlights, the sharp matrix LED headlights with the "L" shaped daytime running lights, the creative index is full of points.
The slender body proportions have the feel of a four-door coupe, and the detailed lines are quite muscular. In terms of body size, it is 4955x1860x1445mm and has a wheelbase of 2890mm. The 19-inch rim is uniquely shaped, with a contrasting color treatment of bright colors and gun gray, the visual effect is very sporty and layered, and the tires are matched with Michelin PRIMACY4 series tires with a size specification of 245/40 R19.

In terms of workmanship materials, after our actual measurements, the average body clearance of Sonata is 4mm, and the maximum difference of clearance is 1.5mm, which is a good level. In terms of paint film thickness, thicker paint film can better protect the car paint when encountering slight scratching, the average paint film thickness of Sonata is 131.4 μm, which is excellent in the same level, and the maximum difference of the paint film is 26 μm, indicating that the body paint film is uniform and the spraying process is mature.
Interior: simple technology, good strength
Inside the car, if the appearance of the Sonata may be judged, but this interior, I believe everyone is more receptive to it. The design of the double screen highlights the atmosphere of science and technology very well, while the use of a large number of soft bags of leather also increases the luxurious atmosphere, practical and warm hands.
The dashboard size is 12.3 inches, the display effect is good, the picture is delicate, switch driving modes, the theme will also change, and the playability is very high. The central control screen is the same as 12.3 inches, the system logic is clear, and the supported functions are relatively rich, such as network music, online navigation, etc. are achievable.
In terms of technology configuration, taking our test drive of the 2.0T high-end model as an example, panoramic imagery, steering real-time picture assistance, and an adaptive cruise system that can interact with real-time road condition data for map navigation are all equipped on this car. And the conventional Bluetooth, intelligent voice interaction, mobile phone remote control and other functions are naturally equipped without further words.
The independent touch panel at the bottom of the screen can be set for some common functions, but if you want to control the air conditioner, you still need to enter the secondary menu of the central control system, which is slightly cumbersome.
In terms of storage space, the front door panel can place up to 1 medium mineral water bottle, the central handrail can put down 2 medium mineral water bottles, the rear row can be placed on both sides of the 1 medium mineral water bottle, and the middle of the rear row can also place 2 medium mineral water bottles. In terms of power connectors, there are 2 USB in the front row and 1 USB in the rear row.
In terms of seating space, the front seats are electrically adjustable, with seat heating and thick cushion filling, so you won't feel tired even if you sit on it all day. The rear seats are equally outstanding, with long enough cushions and plenty of leg support.
After actual measurements, Sonata's trunk can accommodate 8 standard-sized cartons, and the longitudinal space is large enough. The rear seats cannot be reclined, which has a certain impact on expanding the space.
Driving: enough power, easy to drive smoothly.
The Sonata is powered by a 2.0-liter turbocharged engine with a maximum power of 176.5 kW (240 hp) / 6000 rpm, a maximum torque of 353 N·m / 1500-4000 rpm, and an 8AT transmission.
The power reserve of the 2.0T engine is very abundant, the starting overtaking is quite brisk, the turbocharged speed point is low, and there is no obvious lag, which makes the driving experience very smooth. The acceleration ability of the rear section is also worthy of recognition, the driver does not need the big foot throttle to push the power, only needs a steady output, you can have a better power output, quite calm.
The performance of the 8AT gearbox is also remarkable, whether it is a congested city, or a high-speed speed of Pingchuan, its gear shift speed is very fast, and the smoothness has been achieved to the extreme. And the degree of tacit understanding with the engine matching is also very high, which can accurately understand the driver's intentions and shift gears steadily and accurately.
Before the test, we first switched the driving mode to Sport mode, then manually turned off the traction control system, and used the left foot brake and the right foot throttle to eject the start, and the speed could be maintained at 2000 rpm.
As can be seen from the P-box data, Sonata's initial response is very good, the maximum G value is close to 0.5g, and there is a good sense of pushing back. The 8AT gearbox shifted gears without a noticeable sense of impact during intense driving, everything was smooth, and in the end Sonata achieved a breakthrough of 8.21 seconds.

The Sonata tested the Michelin Haoyue 4 Series tyres with a size specification of 245/40 R19, which are comfortable and have a good quiet performance while taking into account the grip.
When the speed exceeds 100km/h, the braking force is relatively stable, ABS intervenes quickly, and the control of the brake pedal is also more delicate, and there is no serious sense of elastic foot. The entire braking trajectory is straight, and the body attitude control is also very good.
From the data in the P-box, it can be seen that the maximum deceleration g value reaches -1.2g, and then stabilizes to about -1g, and the entire braking process is relatively smooth, and the final result is 36.12 meters. In the event of an emergency, a shorter braking distance can greatly avoid accidents.
In the comfort test, after three water bump tests, Sonata's average upside down water output was 50ml, which is in the middle of the mid-size sedan ranking. Sonata's suspension is typical of comfort orientation, adjusting soft and comfortable, and the ability to filter small vibrations is full of points, but in the face of the large impact of the speed reduction belt, the suspension absorption ability is weak and there is a slight aftershock. In terms of noise, Sonata's performance is also in line with the same level, with a noise of 61.4 dB at 60km/h.
