Zagreb, 18 May (Xinhua) -- On 18 May, the Croatian parliament passed the decision to dissolve the current parliament by a vote of 105 votes in favor, 8 votes against, and 4 abstentions. The results of the vote paved the way for general elections to be held in the summer.

According to the Croatian Constitution, parliamentary elections should be held within 30 to 60 days after the dissolution of the parliament, and the date of the election will be determined by President Milanovic. Croatian Prime Minister Prenenkovic said last week that elections could be held as early as June 21 and as late as July 12.

The latest polls show that the croatian Democratic Community (COMMUNITY), the largest political party in the Croatian coalition government, has a support rate of about 30.2 per cent and the largest opposition party, the Social Democratic Party, with a support rate of 27.8 per cent.

The Croatian Parliament is unicameral and has 151 seats for a four-year term. The term of office of the current Parliament began in October 2016.

In September 2016, Croatia held early parliamentary elections, with no single political party or coalition receiving more than half of the seats needed to form a separate government. The NCC and the Bridge Party negotiated a coalition government.
