In August 2020, the anti-Japanese theme film "Eight Hundred" was released, the content of the film was adapted from the Battle of Songhu in 1937, telling the story of the "Eight Hundred Heroes" of the 524th Regiment of the 88th Division of the National Revolutionary Army who stubbornly held the Sihang Warehouse and blocked the Japanese army. People who know this history know that when the Battle of Songhu was coming to an end, the Nationalist army of the 524th Regiment of the 88th Division, led by Xie Jinyuan, received an order from their superiors to hold the Sihang warehouse on the banks of the Suzhou River, and they stubbornly confronted the fierce Japanese army with a battalion of troops for four days and four nights.

The Nationalist government knew that a battalion of troops could not resist the attack of the Japanese army at all, but it still issued such an order for two purposes, on the one hand, to let them defend Zhabei so that the large troops would have time to withdraw, and on the other hand, to show it to the international community and win sympathy. As a result, the team was left alone. So, what is the final outcome of these eight hundred heroes?
<h1 class="pgc-h-arrow-right" data-track="4" > "eight hundred heroes" insisted on the four-line warehouse</h1>
At that time, Xie Jinyuan, as the regimental commander, had already prepared for the worst after receiving the order from his superiors, and he knew that to confront the Japanese army with his current strength was undoubtedly to hit the stone with a pebble, but he did not shrink back, but with the idea of martyrdom, he decided to confront the Japanese army to the end. In order to delay time, Xie Jinyuan came up with a way, he deliberately released false news, saying that there were eight hundred soldiers stationed in the Sixing Warehouse, which would make the Japanese army jealous and dare not attack easily.
According to relevant records, the number of this national army team is actually only more than four hundred, and the history of calling this team "eight hundred brave soldiers" is actually an honorific title for heroes. In the next battle, the Japanese army did not dare to attack, and coupled with the Factual Concession near the Sihang Warehouse, the Japanese army could only send a small force to fight. In order to defeat the Nationalist army as soon as possible, the Japanese army began to blockade the perimeter of the Sihang warehouse, leaving the Nationalist army short of food and water and incapacitated.
Xie Jinyuan led the soldiers to stick to the Sixing Warehouse, which made the people of Shanghai very moved, and after learning about the situation of the national army team running out of water and grain, the people tried their best to send grain and water to the warehouse to help the national army tide over the difficulties. With the support of the people of Shanghai, Xie Jinyuan led the team to stubbornly confront the Japanese army, and the Japanese army attacked for four days and four nights, but still did not take the Sihang warehouse.

Just when Xie Jinyuan was planning to confront the Japanese army to the end, he again received an order from Lao Jiang, to the effect that the strategic purpose was to achieve, and asked Xie Jinyuan to lead his troops to evacuate the Sihang warehouse. But what is unexpected is that this evacuation is like changing from one wolf den to another, and the National Government once again abandoned them, allowing these heroes who defended the country to enter the British shelter.
In desperation, Xie Jinyuan could only lead the team to the shelter and live a life of house arrest. In the British shelter, although there was no freedom, Xie Jinyuan was not discouraged, he trained with soldiers every day, and raised the military flag to let the people of Shanghai know that they had been there and that everything would be fine. In order to make the living standards of the heroes better, the citizens of Shanghai often send some food and medicine, which makes Xie Jinyuan very moved, and at the same time makes his determination to resist Japan more firm.
<h1 class="pgc-h-arrow-right" data-track="11" > Xie Jinyuan was assassinated by Wang Jingwei</h1>
Xie Jinyuan's deeds have been widely spread and have received the attention of many people, including Wang Jingwei. It was in 1941 that Wang Jingwei approached Xie Jinyuan and wanted to persuade xie Jinyuan to turn to him and serve the Wang puppet government. Xie Jinyuan knew of Wang Jingwei's traitorous behavior, and for his recruitment, Xie Jinyuan resolutely refused. Wang Jingwei was still not dead-hearted, and repeatedly threatened Xie Jinyuan to induce him without success, so he began to kill. Wang Jingwei bought off several soldiers in the shelter and secretly killed Xie Jinyuan.
Xie Jinyuan's death shook the whole of Shanghai, and on the day of his funeral, many Shanghai citizens spontaneously sent him off, and the elder Jiang also posthumously awarded Xie Jinyuan the rank of major general in the army. After Xie Jinyuan's death, the nationalist soldiers locked up in the shelter lost their main backbone, so where should their future go?

<h1 class="pgc-h-arrow-right" data-track="15" > Chiang Kai-shek doesn't care, we manage! </h1>
At that time, the citizens of Shanghai petitioned one after another to demand their release, but no one cared about this matter, and old Jiang even ignored it and let these nationalist soldiers fend for themselves. Later, the Japanese army saw that no one cared about these soldiers, so they disregarded the previous agreement and took these Nationalist soldiers away from the shelter and incorporated them into the Japanese labor camp as coolies.
These Nationalist soldiers lived in the dark days of the Japanese labor camps, had to work non-stop every day, and if they slackened off, they would be beaten and maimed by the Japanese army, and even tortured to death. It was not until the end of the War of Resistance that these nationalist soldiers were rescued, but the number of survivors was less than a hundred. After these people came out, the civil war began, but they didn't want to fight for Old Chiang anymore, because what Old Chiang had done before really chilled them, so they decided to hide their names, settle in Shanghai, and live some ordinary lives.
After the founding of the People's Republic of China, When President Chen learned of what happened to the eight hundred heroes, he was shocked and angry, these were all heroes who defended their homes and defended the country, how could Old Jiang treat them so ruthlessly. Therefore, General Manager Chen ordered: "Chiang Kai-shek does not care, we are in charge!" Soon after, the state built a mausoleum for General Xie Jinyuan, and posthumously recognized those soldiers who died as martyrs, and also found those who survived, and arranged jobs for them, and also gave them some help in life.

<h1 class="pgc-h-arrow-right" data-track="20" > conclusion</h1>
After many years, the eight hundred brave men finally got the treatment they deserved, and what old Chiang Kai-shek could not do, our party did. Although this appeasement came a little late, it comforted the hearts of these heroes, at least their bloody sacrifices were not in vain. Heroes should never be forgotten at any time.
This is the story of the eight hundred heroes, their patriotic spirit is worth learning from us, and their heroic deeds are worth passing on forever.
