Auckland, January 23 (Xinhua) -- New Zealand's largest marathon, the Auckland Marathon, was held on January 23, with New Zealand runners Daniel Jones and Lisa Cross winning the men's and women's full course championships with 2 hours, 20 minutes and 2 seconds and 2 hours, 50 minutes and 46 seconds respectively.

Due to the impact of the new crown pneumonia epidemic, many marathons around the world in 2021 have been postponed or even cancelled, and the 30th Auckland Marathon, which was scheduled to be held in October 2021, has also been postponed to January 23, 2022, mainly by New Zealand domestic runners.

According to the organizers, this year's Oakland Marathon attracted more than 8,000 participants, in addition to the full marathon, there are also half marathons, 11 km cross-sea bridge long-distance running and wheelchair marathons.

The Oakland Marathon began in 1936. Since 1992, the Auckland Marathon has been an annual event and one of the IAAF-recognised marathon events.
