Bill Cosby has been widely known in the comedy world for decades

Much of the role comes from his famous role in TV shows like the Cosby Show, which saw him play a healthy and loving father and husband.

In addition, he is regarded as a pioneer of black comedians and actors, the first black actor to appear in the weekly series ("My Spy") and the first black actor to win an Emmy Award.

However, when he was accused of sexual misconduct by dozens of women, the public perception of him, now 84, changed.

Now, Showtime will examine the complexity of Cosby's historical significance, as well as his reputational damage in his new limited series, "We Need to Talk About Cosby."

"Don't edit this," warned a woman in the trailer for the show, released Wednesday. "A lot of people know that. Because you can't do what he does unless you have someone else to support what you're doing.

"Bill Cosby has always been one of my heroes," director W. Kamau Bell added in a voiceover. "I'm a black, stand-up comedian, and I was born in the '70s. But this one? It's complicated. ”

Then, the director asked the $64,000 question: "How do we talk about Bill Cosby?" ”

The trailer then shows several people talking about Cosby, who points out that he has been a "teacher" and "moral center" throughout his career — and has had a significant cultural impact.

One interviewee noted, "You can't talk about black Americans in the 20th century without talking about Bill Cosby. ”

In a nervous turn, respondents began to notice the "breadcrumbs" left by Cosby, indicating his misconduct.

"We thought we knew Cosby," one woman said. "We never knew Cosby."

"We Need to Talk About Cosby" will premiere at the Sundance Film Festival on Saturday and then begin screening at Showtime on January 30.
