According to the latest findings of the Hong Kong government, the local cohort infection was due to the family of a previously confirmed patient who had visited Kwai Wing, Lai Kwai Lou and Green Kwai Lou in Kwai Chung Estate on 13 January and stayed in the building's garbage room, during which the virus was spread to the relevant staff or residents of the building.

Chen Zhaoshi said that the siege operation is expected to involve 2,700 residents, and the SAR government will set up a temporary sampling station at the scene, requiring residents to stay in the house after daily testing to avoid cross-infection. In addition, the HKSAR Government will send door-to-door sampling for the elderly and people with reduced mobility, as well as provide meals and support for residents.

Chen Stressed that there is a very high risk of cluster transmission and that decisive action is necessary to avoid further spread of the virus. The HKSAR Government hopes that through this containment test, the chain of transmission in the area will be effectively interrupted, so that residents will not have to face the risk of infection on a daily basis, and it is expected to resume normal life before the Lunar New Year.

Chan called on the confirmed cases in Hong Kong to reappear, and the people of Hong Kong should take precautions to prevent and fight the epidemic, vaccinate as soon as possible, and reduce unnecessary social contact, especially cross-family gatherings. Chan said that as long as everyone fights the epidemic with one heart, she is confident that Hong Kong can overcome a new wave of the epidemic.
