Zhongyuan Festival, the Buddhist Obon Festival, which is a festival dedicated to the dead in the seventh and half months of the lunar calendar, has always been a familiar cultural symbol. In Hong Kong, Obon is a grand and grand festival – it has been a hundred years since the hipsters who have emigrated to Hong Kong in the past brought their traditional Oban Shenghui to Hong Kong. This grand Obansheng Festival, held from the first day of the seventh month of the lunar calendar to the end of July, includes sacrifices, burning paper money, sending peace rice, bidding for blessings, and performing divine feats. The story of the movie "Oban Shengong" takes place in a Shengong drama class that is about to open.
Zong Hua, played by Zhang Jiahui, is the son of the drama class owner, who was originally in the publishing business in the mainland, but he fled back after being cheated of money, and his girlfriend also jumped to his death. After he returned, his half-sister Jingjing had a bad attitude towards him, and the other people in the drama class were not very kind to him. However, the old class owner was hospitalized by his daughter Qi, and the Shengong drama was about to start, and the head of the family, Hua Dan Xiaoyan, asked Zong Hua to be the current class master to support the drama class. Strange things began to happen one after another. First Jingjing was possessed, then Zonghua began to see many visions, and then Xiaoyanjie also lost her mind, and the whole drama class was harassed by the Otherworld. Finally, Zong Hua heard rumors from the old employees of the drama class that there was a fire in the place where the stage was located forty years ago, and countless deaths and injuries were inflicted. The old class master realized that things were not good, ran back from the hospital to save his children, and as a result, not only was he unable to return to heaven, but he was also possessed by a ghost and almost strangled his son. At the critical moment, Zong Hua shouted that you rushed to me, and he (and the audience) finally knew the reason why the drama class was haunted.
Forty years ago, the fire was set off by Zong Hua's mother, Hua Danyanqiu, the head of the Shengong drama class at that time. At that time, she was banned from acting by the young old class master due to injury, and replaced by her apprentice. In order to return to the stage, Yan Qiujie did not hesitate to commit herself to the class master, but who knew that the class master also had an affair with the little apprentice at the same time, and Yan Qiu sister lost her body and did not fulfill her wishes, not willing to promote revenge, so she burned the stage that was being performed. Those ghosts who did evil were the female disciples and other wronged ghosts who had died in vain, who returned to the human world on the occasion of the ghost moon, they wanted to find a substitute, and they wanted to take revenge. In the end, Zong Hua replayed the scene where his mother committed suicide that year, and broke the Oban Divine Gong with death.
