Fir is the most widely cultivated, fast-growing and highly economically valuable timber tree species in the Yangtze River Basin and south of the Qinling Mountains in China. The wood is yellowish and white for construction, bridges, shipbuilding, mining columns, wooden piles, electric poles, furniture and raw materials for the wood fiber industry. Fir wood is strong in wind resistance, resistant to smoke and dust, can be used as a street tree and create a windbreak, and has medicinal value. It is called the Almighty Tree by foresters.
The artificial cultivation of fir has a long history, and when Jin Xian and Tao Kan were the taiwei of Changsha in the fourth year, they planted the fir knot nunnery in Yuelu Mountain, known as "Shan'an". Hemlock
'Hemlock' evolved and formed in the unique habitat of Hunan Xiaoxi National Nature Reserve, with a proportion of more than 80% of the heartwood and a wood density of up to 0.539 g/cm3, which is significantly higher than that of other fir types; in addition, it also has the characteristics of heartwood purple-brown, corrosion-resistant, thick leaf texture, dark green, two obvious white stomata bands on the upper surface of the leaves, straight and vertical stripes on the bark, and extremely dense branches.
This variety has stable traits and fast vegetative growth, and is the only new fir variety in Mainland China with a wood density of more than 0.5 g/cm3, which can be used as a high-quality fast-growing timber forest cultivation and promotion.
Eshan No. 1
'Eshan No. 1' is an evergreen tree, the trunk is straight and perfect, the canopy is narrow and spire-shaped, the side branches are naturally drooping and the old branches are falling off, the leaves are linear lanceolate spiral-shaped alternate, hermaphroditic, the male and female flowers are clustered at the top of the branches, and the fruit is nearly spherical.
Its canopy is narrow, spire-shaped, the crown width is generally about 1.5m, the branches are short, the branches are 80 to 100 cm long, and the base of the branches is about 1 cm thick; the side branches are drooping, the side branches that are more than 2 to 3 years old naturally droop, and the angle with the main trunk is about 150 °; the old branches naturally fall off, when the side branches grow to 6 to 7 years, they gradually wither and fall off naturally from the main thousand births in the autumn and winter of the year; the tree grows faster, the crown height is about 1m, the crown height ratio is small, the trunk is straight, there are no lateral branch nodes, and the yield is high.
