NASA will discuss Webb's next steps to reach his final destination

The ground team plans to turn on Weber's thrusters at 2 p.m. on Monday, Jan. 24, to cut the space telescope into the orbit of the sun at the second Lagrange point (L2), nearly 1 million miles from Earth. This mid-course correction burn has long been planned about 29 days after launch. This week, the task action team selected a target date and time for the burning. Engineers also completed the remote removal of Weber's lenses from the launch location, beginning a months-long process of optical alignment of the telescope.

Scientists and engineers operating NASA's James Webb Space Telescope will answer questions about the mission's latest milestones in a LIVE NASA Science broadcast at 3 p.m. .m 3 p.m. ET on Monday, Jan. 24, followed by a media conference call at 4 p.m.
