[Humiliate yourself!] According to the Washington Post on January 20, 2022, a federal court in Boston rejected the U.S. Department of Justice's allegations against Chen Gang, a Chinese-American professor at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, on January 20, because the government acknowledged that it "could no longer meet its burden of proof" at trial.

Federal prosecutors in Boston reportedly said in a court filing that the new evidence weakened the charges faced by Chinese-American professor Chen Gang. The newly appointed prosecutor, Rachael S. Rollins, said in a statement that prosecutors had determined that the government could no longer meet its burden of proof at trial. Rawlings said the charges were dropped "for the sake of justice."

Chen Gang, who became a U.S. citizen in 2000, was indicted a year ago on charges of wire fraud, misrepresentation on tax returns, and failure to disclose foreign bank accounts. The allegations are related to his 2017 application for a U.S. Department of Energy grant to support a project he was then head of the mechanical engineering department at MIT. He has been accused of failing to disclose ties to the Chinese government and a tech university in Shenzhen, as well as attempting to conceal his membership in various government-funded talent recruitment programs.
