The sun was "raining", and each raindrop was the size of a moon. This is a photo taken by astronomer Andrew McCarthy, ejecting from the sun's surface a Jupiter-sized plasma "tree" that, when cooled, eventually turns into a drop of gas "raindrops" that fall back to the sun's surface, each one the size of a moon, a phenomenon known as coronal rain.
