Bingling Temple Grottoes is the first batch of key cultural relics protection units approved by the State Council and one of the top ten grottoes in China. The excavation of the Bingling Temple Grottoes began in the Sixteen Kingdoms period, through the Northern Wei, Northern Zhou, Sui, Tang, Song, Yuan, Ming and Qing dynasties, and has a history of more than 1600 years. There are 216 existing cave niches, more than 800 Buddha statues, and more than 1,000 square meters of murals. In July 2014, UNESCO listed the Bingling Temple Grottoes as a World Heritage Site.
