French pharmaceutical giant Sanofi abandons messenger RNA vaccine research and development

author:International Online

French pharmaceutical giant Sanofi announced on September 28 that it would stop the third phase of the new crown vaccine for messenger RNA. This indicates that the company has stopped research and development of this new crown vaccine.

It is reported that the reason why Sanofi stopped the research and development of the messenger RNA vaccine is that the vaccine has missed the best time to put it on the market. Sanofi said the company will continue to advance the development of a recombinant protein COVID-19 vaccine. The vaccine development program is currently in phase III large-scale clinical trials, and data for phase III trials are expected to be available by the end of this year.

Sanofi has been working with a BIOPHARM company in the United States since 2020 to develop a COVID-19 vaccine based on Messenger's RNA technology, but progress has been slow and has not been able to reach the market. In August, Sanofi bought the U.S. biopharmaceutical company for 2.7 billion euros, hoping to use its technology in messenger ribonucleic acid to advance vaccine development against other diseases such as influenza.
