Recently, the State Grid of China released the "2022 China Ageing TV Research Report". The report shows that many elderly people encounter difficulties when using smart TVs.

According to the 2019 viewership survey of 71 large and medium-sized cities across the country, TV viewers aged 55 to 64 accounted for 18.6% of all viewers, and groups over 65 years old reached 21.8%. Older people are still currently the largest audience for television programming.

According to the results of a "TV Ratings Survey for the Elderly" conducted on China's Home Grid, 26.4% of the surveyed users watched TV for an average of 2 to 3 hours a day, and 16.9% of the surveyed users watched TV for an average of 3 to 5 hours a day. The top three items are "watching various channel programs" (60.5%), "watching your favorite TV series, movies, variety shows, etc. on demand" (49.1%), and "watching TV shows back" (37.0%), at the same time, "mirroring screens, interacting with other devices" through TV, playing music, K songs, and "video chatting with friends and family" are also frequently used functions.

The survey also showed that 40.1% of the respondents used smart TV all-in-ones, 42.6% of the respondents used smart TV set-top boxes, and only 17.4% of the respondents did not use smart TVs.

However, many elderly people have also complained about the difficulties in use. "After booting, you can't go directly to the TV program you want to watch" "There are many devices (set-top boxes, TVs), I don't know how to switch between each other", "the operation is complicated, I don't know how to find the content I want to see", "there are too many remote controls, I don't know how to use it", "I can't find anyone to help when I encounter problems" is the biggest pain point, accounting for 49.6%, 28.0%, 20.9%, 17.6%, 13.4% respectively.

Have you ever turned to your children, relatives and friends when you encounter difficulties?

What kind of TV features are expected by older people? The answer is "get rid of the remote control, control the TV operation completely through voice", "Use the mobile phone to remotely control the operation", "Equipped with a camera, you can check the situation at home through the mobile phone", "You can video chat through the TV", "1-to-1 customer service, when the children are not free, can help solve the problem in real time"... Among them, the choice of tv that hopes to control through voice accounts for 47.9%.

According to the "2022 China Aging TV Research Report", with the iterative upgrading of speech recognition technology in the future, voice interaction will replace the remote control and become the preferred interaction method for users.
