Thanks to the iPhone 13, Apple became the global mobile phone sales champion in 2021.
According to the latest report released by data research institute Canalys, Apple's mobile phones accounted for 22% of global smartphone shipments in the fourth quarter of 2021, taking the top spot in the global smartphone market, followed by Samsung with a 20% market share.
Xiaomi ranked third with 12%, OPPO fourth with 9%, and Vivo ranked in the top five with 8%.
At the end of 2021, Apple won 22% of global smartphone shipments. The last time Apple occupied the first place was back in the fourth quarter of 2020. The iPhone 13 went on sale in September, with more than 40 million units shipped in the year-end holiday season. Apple cut iPhone 13 capacity by more than 10% in October due to chip out-of-stock.
Prior to this, the latest data from research institute Counterpoint Research showed that the iPhone 13 ranked first in sales in the Chinese market and has been ranked first for six consecutive weeks.
According to the report, Apple is the largest smartphone maker in China based on iPhone sales in October 2021. Apple briefly lost the top spot after going public before regaining the lead in early December.
