Epidemic prevention knowledge | technical guidelines for immunization of poultry Newcastle disease in 2022

In accordance with the "National Guiding Opinions on Compulsory Immunization of Animal Diseases (2022-2025)", the agricultural and rural departments organized experts to compile the technical guidelines for animal disease immunization in 2022, and today Xiaobian introduces the sixth article - the technical guidelines for immunization of poultry Newcastle disease.

Newcastle disease is an acute septic infectious disease caused by the Newcastle disease virus, commonly known as "chicken plague", and the Newcastle disease virus does not infect people. The disease occurs throughout the year, especially in cold and climatically changeable seasons. All kinds of day-old chickens can be infected, and 20-day-60 day old chickens are the most susceptible and have high mortality rates. The main features are dyspnea, neurological disorders, bleeding and necrosis of the mucous membranes and serous membranes.

01 Epidemic situation

The epidemic situation of strong strains of newcastle disease in mainland poultry is generally controlled at a low level. From the monitoring situation, the prevention and control effect of Chicken Newcastle disease is better, but the epidemic intensity of pigeon newcastle disease strong strains has increased, the epidemic scope has expanded, and the pollution surface of Goose Newcastle disease strong virus strains has expanded.

02 Vaccine selection

If you choose to use the Newcastle disease inactivated vaccine or the live attenuated vaccine, the vaccine product information can be queried in the "Veterinary Drug Product Approval Number Data" of the "National Veterinary Drug Basic Information Inquiry" platform of the China Veterinary Drug Information Network: http://vdts.ivdc.org.cn:8081/cx/.

Recommended immunization program

Commercial broilers: At 7 to 10 days of age, the initial immunization is carried out with the Newcastle disease live vaccine or inactivated vaccine, and after 2 weeks, the newcastle disease live vaccine is used to strengthen the immunization once.

Breeders and commercial layer chickens: 3 to 7 days old, with new city disease live vaccine for initial exemption; 10 to 14 days old, with new city disease live vaccine or inactivated vaccine for second exemption; 12 weeks old, with new city disease live vaccine or inactivated vaccine for enhanced immunization; 17 to 18 weeks old or before the start of delivery, another immunization with newcastle disease inactivated vaccine. After the start of delivery, boost immunization is based on immune antibody testing.

03 Immune effect monitoring

Antibody testing was carried out using the hemagglutination test (HA) and hemocoagulation inhibition test (HI) methods specified in GB/T 16550-2020 "Newcastle Disease Diagnostic Techniques".

04 Evaluation of immune effects

Hi potency ≥ 25, judged to be individual immunization qualified. If the qualified number of individual immune antibodies accounts for not less than 70% of the total number of immune populations, it is judged that the herd immunity is qualified.

Newcastle disease has caused three major epidemic transmissions worldwide, the first two originating in Southeast Asia and the Far East, and the third infection was transferred from poultry to pigeons, with symptoms similar to those in birds, but pigeons did not clinically show high breathing difficulties. With the continuous deepening of research, different types of vaccines have been developed, so that after the 1990s, there has been no large-scale epidemic transmission of Newcastle disease, but local disease still exists, and its harm cannot be underestimated, let alone ignored.
