Beyond the Standards is a new work written and directed by old partners Olivier Nakash and Eric Toledano.

The story begins with a pair of friends for many years: Bruno and Malik.

The first level, "outside the standards," is the object of acceptance by Bruno's institutions.

Most of the severely autistic patients who are shut out by hospitals and official institutions have serious violent tendencies, self-harm, injury, and extremely difficult to control.

The second layer, "outside the standards", is the object of training by Malik's institutions.
Most of the people who receive nursing training here in Malik are young people from poor areas.
They have no educational background, no decent jobs, most of them are black, and some of them are even street thugs who used to fight.
Malik brought them together, trained them as simple caregivers, and then spent one-on-one with autistics at Bruno's facility.
Patients and caregivers, two groups that are equally not recognized and accepted by society, meet here, forming a warm world "outside the standard".
But Bruno and Malik, who are trying to maintain this warm world, have thus become the third layer of "beyond the standard".
The two institutions they run are defined as "illegal institutions" because of their lack of professional medical knowledge, lack of formalities, and non-compliance with government requirements, and face the dilemma of being banned at any time.
Autism is no longer an unfamiliar topic, social concern is increasing, and related theme film and television dramas have been sparing no effort to evoke more resonance.
Among them, the most familiar works for domestic audiences are "Ocean Paradise" cooperated by Jet Li and the article ten years ago.
Like most films about the genre, Ocean Paradise focuses on a specific autistic person (i.e., Wang Dafu, played by the article).

In the film, Josephine, who has become an adult, abandoned him shortly after his diagnosis, but fortunately his mother never gave up and dreamed of a day when her son would get better.
But as his mother grew older, Josephine was still unable to live independently, and her desperate mother finally had the idea of "taking him to die with her"...
The 12-year-old Valentine was abandoned by his family shortly after his diagnosis because of his severe tendency to self-harm, and had to go to the hospital and rescue agency, kicking and kicking like a leather ball.
The family is still like this, and the onlookers who are not related by blood naturally cannot talk about "putting themselves in their place".

The professional hospitals that should be responsible have made the situation of autistic patients worse.

But "Beyond the Standards", which presents various dilemmas, has always been calm and restrained.
They are just presenting, showing the real plight of patients and families, showing the real harm inflicted around them.
It also presents those sporadic, but also thrillingly beautiful moving moments in the midst of this difficult situation.
Bruno and Malik's fifteen years of perseverance are touching, and the trust and dependence of patients are even more touching.
When Bruno and the caregivers cheered and applauded that Josephine had finally gotten off at the right station, the beauty of humanity shone at its most dazzling brilliance in that moment.
At the end of the day, at a time when there is no solution to the disease, autistic people are destined to live outside the world's conventional standards.
But even if they look at the world dimly, they have their own vivid life and their own unique expression.
Someone is willing to walk into their world and patiently appreciate their kindness and love, like Bruno, like Malik.
