In the midst of the epidemic, the hardships meet, and loving you is also fulfilled
The spring is dry, the fish phase is on land, and the wetness is wet and the foam is wet. - "Zhuangzi"
It is said that "hardships see the truth", and I think this sentence is the most true in the face of the epidemic. The outbreak of the epidemic not only reflects the ugly face of the traitorous businessman who took the opportunity to send refugees from the country to get rich and disregard the lives of their rampant compatriots, but also illuminated the noble character of the angels in white who are fighting in the front line of the fight against the epidemic and putting their own safety at risk.

First, the epidemic is coming
Set in the autumn of 1837, our protagonist Angelo is an Italian charcoal party member who also has the title of a hussar. Unfortunately, however, Angelo was betrayed by a friend who reported Angelo's hiding place to the Austrian police who had hunted down the Charcoal Burners, but Angelo heard the arrest and fled early.
In order to avoid the tireless pursuit of Austrian police detectives, Angelo hid all the way to the east and west. Angelo ventured through the Provence area of France to reach the French town of Manosque. When Angelo arrived in the city, he never imagined that in just a few days, a deafening epidemic would come here and spread to the whole of France at a very fast speed.
The horrific epidemic raged through the town with the footsteps of the god of death, and the picturesque villages were empty in the middle of the night, and the originally poetic village was left with only a dead body and crows hovering over the corpses. Patients are in great pain when they have seizures, convulsing and foaming at the same time, and people who suffer from the epidemic usually die quickly, turning into a stiff corpse.
The town's doctors were helpless against the outbreak, and in an era of lack of antibiotics, there was no good way to control the outbreak. The spread of the epidemic has plunged the residents of Manosque into a high degree of tension, and they are afraid that the next person to die will be themselves. People's mentality is very anxious, but there is nothing they can do about the epidemic, they can only pray in vain to God to bless themselves, pray that the gods can step on the colorful clouds to disperse the epidemic, and they can live a stable life as usual.
Angelo, who had worked so hard to escape to Manosque City, did not find his friends. And because he was hungry and thirsty, he saw a pool of water and leaned down to drink water. While drinking water, Angelo was mistaken for poisoning by the panicked citizens, and was immediately chased by a large number of people.
2. Light cavalry on the roof
In order to escape, Angelo had to hide on the roof and starved on the roof for two whole days, which is where the title "Light Cavalry on the Roof" came from. On the third day, it suddenly rained heavily, and Angelo ventured from the skylight into a building where he saw Pauline alone. The house belonged to Aunt Pauline, who and her husband were separated from the epidemic and had to wait for him alone in the house. After Pauline saw the embarrassed Angelo, instead of abandoning Angelo, she warmly welcomed him.
After a conversation between Angelo and Pauline, the two decided to leave the affected area together. Angelo and Pauline supported each other on the road, just as the two left the affected area immediately. Pauline met her husband's friend and learned that her husband was also in the epidemic zone.
Pauline decided to go back to save people, but on the way, she was treated as a patient of the epidemic by French soldiers and forced to the quarantine area. Angelo entered the quarantine area and voluntarily asked for isolation, found Pauline who was sent to the quarantine area, and comforted Pauline that she must be able to think of a way out. Pauline regained her courage with Angelo's encouragement, and they fought the fire in the quarantine area, rushing out of the quarantine area while the soldiers opened the gate to fight the fire.
Angelo and Pauline, who had left the quarantine zone, decided to leave the Diyusborg where Pauline lived, and Angelo decided to send Pauline home and leave. Unfortunately, at this time, the sky was not beautiful, and it began to rain heavily. The two had to go to a nearby manor for shelter, there was no one in the manor, they made a fire to keep warm, and Angelo found several bottles of wine in the cellar.
Pauline and Angelo had a little drink together, as the saying goes, after drinking, Pauline told Angelo about her past: her father was a doctor, and when she was sixteen, she coincidentally saved a nobleman who was forty years older than herself, and accepted the other party's marriage proposal in a vague way.
Pauline spoke and expressed her love to Angelo through wine. Although Angelo also had a good feeling for Pauline at this time, because of Pauline's identity as a married woman, he had to silently bury his good feelings in his heart, and appeared indifferent on the surface. The rain stopped angelo and he planned to continue his journey, but Pauline was reluctant to leave immediately. In desperation, Angelo decided to go first, and the sad Pauline was disappointed.
Angelo, who had just taken a few steps, still did not trust Pauline and followed in. It was Angelo who noticed Pauline fainting on the stairs, and it turned out that Pauline was suffering from a terrible epidemic. Angelo cooled Pauline over and over again as long as he followed the old method of burning, and because of drowsiness, Angelo also slept.
Angelo woke up and was pleasantly surprised to find that Pauline was not dead, and her mental state was much better, and she could continue on her way. Angelo and Pauline finally reached Fort Diyuss, and Pauline's husband also rushed over. Seeing that Pauline and her husband were safely reunited, Angelo quietly left Diyusburg, bid farewell to Pauline, and silently buried his feelings for Pauline in his heart, which is the story told by "Hussars on the Roof".
Third, see the truth in suffering
Angelo's feelings for Pauline, the "hussar on the roof", are extremely affectionate and especially precious in the midst of the epidemic. At the time of the epidemic, Angelo did not ignore his companion because Pauline had a fever and might suffer from the epidemic, but instead took good care of the companion who had just met.
When Pauline confides her love to herself, Angelo not only does not take advantage of the danger of others but fully takes into account Pauline's identity as a married wife, fully showing Angelo's noble qualities, and loving someone does not necessarily mean having her. Pauline's treatment of Angelo also shows her enthusiasm and love. Pauline and Angelo's mutual help in the face of the pandemic fully demonstrates the brilliance of humanity when disaster strikes.
Now we are facing the raging new crown pneumonia, the new crown pneumonia epidemic is a serious challenge for us, but we have to believe that compared to the era when antibiotics were not invented and the treatment of the sick was limited to scrubbing the patient's whole body with shochu, we have developed medical technology and the white angels who are working hard to fight the front line of the fight against the epidemic. We must believe that the haze of the epidemic will soon pass and a better tomorrow is coming!
