According to the official website of the Chinese Academy of Engineering, Pan Ziqiang was born in June 1936 in Yiyang City, Hunan Province, and graduated from the Department of Technical Physics of Peking University in 1957.

According to public information, Pan Ziqiang once served as the director of the Science and Technology Committee of the China National Nuclear Corporation, the director of the Nuclear Safety and Radiation Environment Professional Committee of the Chinese Environment Society, the Chinese representative of the United Nations Atomic Radiation Effect Scientific Committee, and the researcher of the China Atomic Energy Research Institute, the doctoral supervisor of radiation protection, the adjunct professor of Tsinghua University, and the scientific adviser of the Hong Kong Observatory.

In the early days of the development of the mainland radiation protection discipline, Pan Ziqiang proposed the mainland's practical health care physics framework in 1963, and completed a number of monitoring techniques and methods in ensuring the development of nuclear weapons and nuclear energy. Since the 1970s, Pan Ziqiang has taken the lead in carrying out, participating in and guiding the completion of the "National Environmental Natural Radioactivity Level Survey" and presided over the completion of the "30-year Radiation Environmental Quality Evaluation of China's Nuclear Industry".

In the early 1980s, Pan Ziqiang published articles such as "Formulating the Principles and Main Numerical Limits for Radiation Protection of Nuclear Power Plants", which played an important role in the environmental impact review of the site selection of Qinshan Nuclear Power Plant, and the systematic research on "energy and environment" that began and continues to this day has provided a technical basis for the environmental impact assessment of nuclear power in mainland China.

In 1997, Pan Ziqiang was elected as an academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering.

Pan Ziqiang actively promoted the establishment of the "radiation accident and emergency response system", made pioneering work in the establishment of radiation protection regulations and standard systems, and presided over the compilation of "National Radiation Protection Standards" for many times. The idea that "radioactive waste management should be centered on geological disposal" was put forward, which laid the foundation for the safety management of radioactive waste in the mainland and did a lot of fruitful work for cultivating radiation protection talents.

According to a February 2014 report in China Science Daily, Pan Ziqiang talked about radiation around humans in an interview.

"There are two types of radiation that can be exposed to the hospital, one is CT scan in the physical diagnosis examination, chest X-ray, etc., and the other is radiation therapy in treatment." Pan Ziqiang said that everyone does not have to worry too much about medical radiation, because in the mainland, it is not the radiation that "deals" with people the most, in fact, natural radiation is more than medical radiation.

"Some of the natural radiation is immutable, like cosmic rays. The higher the altitude, the greater the dose of cosmic ray radiation. In addition to cosmic rays, the Earth's crust also produces radiation, which is not uniform everywhere. Pan Ziqiang said.

"All along, everyone thinks that the radiation of nuclear power plants must be the largest, but in fact, this is a misunderstanding." Pan Ziqiang said that in fact, the radiation dose of nuclear power plants is not large, and the scope of influence is very small.

In 2016, academician Pan Ziqiang celebrated his eightieth birthday, and Zhou Ji, then president of the Chinese Academy of Engineering, sent a congratulatory letter. The congratulatory letter said: "You are knowledgeable and humble, and you have always worked in the front line of engineering research and practice. You care about and actively participate in the work of the Institute of Engineering, and have made important contributions to the development of the Institute. You love the motherland, seek truth from science, blaze new trails, be rigorous in your studies, and dedicate yourself to your work, and are a model for the mainland engineering and scientific and technological community to learn! ”

According to public information, since entering 2022, two academicians have passed away.

According to guangming daily news, on January 1, 2022, Xu Shengchu, academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, expert in the design and process of precision machine tools in the mainland, and senior engineer of the Science and Technology Committee of the Former Ministry of Machinery Industry (Bureau), died in Beijing at the age of 88 due to ineffective medical treatment.

Born in Tianjin on January 7, 1934, Xu Studied in the Mechanical Department of Dalian Institute of Technology from 1951 to 1955, and has been working in the former Ministry of Machinery Industry ever since. In 1993, he was elected as a member (academician) of the Faculty of Chinese Academy of Sciences. Xu Has long been engaged in the development of precision measurement and precision measuring instruments and the design and manufacture of precision machining and ultra-precision machine tools, solving a series of key technical problems in practical applications. He presided over the development of the mainland's first one-meter longitudinal photoelectric ratio long instrument, laser wavelength as the benchmark for engraving one-meter grating and magnetic grid mother machine; developed ultra-precision machine tools and ultra-precision machining technology, has successfully developed ultra-precision lathes, ultra-precision milling machines and high-precision roundness meters and other new products; also presided over the development of high-efficiency ultra-precision machine tools, blade grinding diamond equipment that can lightly touch and constant pressure super-precision positioning, etc., making important contributions to the development and application of precision processing science and technology in the mainland.
