According to Reuters Baghdad news on December 21, local time, the Iraqi military and the US Embassy in Iraq said that in an attack on the US embassy, at least eight "Katyusha" rockets fell into the heavily guarded "green zone" of Baghdad.

The Iraqi military says an "illegal group" fired eight rockets. Most of the rockets hit a residential complex and a security checkpoint inside the "green zone," causing damage to buildings and cars and injuring an Iraqi soldier, the military statement said.

A security official working in the "Green Zone" said the anti-rocket system intercepted one of the rockets.

Reuters quoted a statement from the U.S. Embassy in Iraq as saying: "The U.S. Embassy confirmed that the rocket targeting the international zone led to the intervention of the embassy's defense system." The embassy compound was slightly damaged, but there were no casualties. (Compilation/Jin Jinlong)
