Meet COP15, listen to the beauty of biodiversity, and let's explore "Colorful Yunnan: The Mystery of Symbiosis of All Things" in the voice of nature.

Every year in the early winter, Kunming's old friend red-billed gulls will come to the appointment on time, and Kunming will once again usher in the annual gull watching season. They either spread their wings and soar in places such as Cuihu Park, Huanxi Bridge, haigeng park, etc., or stop and rest. In order to entertain them, the people of Kunming are also the best friend of the landlords: enough grain pipes, sending people to protect ... There was also a scene of touching "human-gull love". Today, let us follow the beautiful voice and listen to "The Unchangeable Love between Kunming People and Seagulls for More Than Thirty Years".

Meet COP15 and listen to the beauty of biodiversity.

Welcome to join us in Colorful Yunnan: The Mystery of Symbiosis.

This is a legendary story of people and birds living in harmony.

Since 1985, every year at the beginning of winter, thousands of red-billed gulls have flown thousands of kilometers from Siberia and Central Asia to the spring city of Kunming. Every day in Kunming's Dianchi Lake, Cuihu Park, Panlong River and other places to circle.

This agreement between Kunming and the red-billed gull has continued for more than thirty years.

Why do red-billed gulls love Kunming so much? Perhaps, it is inseparable from the Kunming people's love for the red-billed gull.

How much do Kunming people love red-billed gulls? Let me tell you a story first.

When the red-billed gulls inhabited Kunming, every morning, there was an old man named Wu Qingheng in Kunming, who would always walk more than 20 kilometers to See the red-billed gulls in Cuihu Park. The old man was old, somewhat hunched over, carrying a blue cloth bag containing gull food.

Animals are spiritual, they have long been familiar with the figure and voice of the old man Wu Qingheng, seeing him coming, flocks of red-billed gulls will hover around the old man. The old man took out a biscuit from the cloth bag he was carrying, broke it into small pieces with his hands and placed it on the fence by the lake, calling for red-billed gulls to eat it.

Because of "love", he gave familiar red-billed gulls names: "one-legged", "gray-headed", "red-billed", "old sand", "princess"... The red-billed gull has also become the "family" that the old man misses most in his later years, and they accompany each other.

Later, the old man Wu Qingheng died, and his photos before his death were enlarged by his family and taken to Cuihu Lake, but he did not expect to attract countless red-billed gulls circling around the statue and chirping, as if they were mourning and telling sadness.

In order to allow the old man to see his favorite red-billed gull forever, a statue was made and placed by the green lake.

This statue is known as the "Old Man of the Seagull".

In Kunming, there are many more touching stories about the relationship between people and gulls.

"Seagull Inspector" Liu Zhen

"Grandma Seagull" Cui Fengxian

"Seagull Canteen Spoon Man" Zhao Gang... Such a story cannot be told.

The Kunming municipal government has also issued a number of policies to stop all kinds of behaviors that harm red-billed gulls and damage the habitat of red-billed gulls; at some gull viewing points, some units have organized "gull protection teams" to regularly feed, observe records, and discourage uncivilized behavior of tourists. Even ordinary citizens who see red-billed gulls injured, or see someone hurting red-billed gulls, will take the initiative to stop it... For the people of Kunming, the red-billed gull has long since changed from a guest to a family.

I think this is one of the reasons why the red-billed gull has been in love with Kunming for more than thirty years.

In fact, in the past two years, not only in Kunming, but also in the nine plateau lakes in Yunnan, the figure of red-billed gulls has been seen, and the number of red-billed gulls that come to Yunnan for winter is also rising year by year.

For more than 30 years, it has turned its hometown into a hometown. From 11 to 15 October this year, the fifteenth meeting of the Conference of the Parties to the Convention on Biological Diversity was held in Kunming, and according to the earliest arrival records in previous years, it was the day that the red-billed gull advance troops arrived in Kunming. What kind of appearance will the "family" do to celebrate the happy event, and the red-billed gull will come? We'll see.
