Witness is a 2008 Hong Kong police thriller action film directed by Lam Chao-yin, with Tung Wei as the action designer and starring Nicholas Tse, Cheung Cheung Fai, Liao Qizhi, Cheung Jing Chu and Kang Hao Man. He has won several awards at various film awards ceremonies. The English title "Beast Stalker" means "beastly stalker" and describes the two male protagonists tracking each other and fighting wits and courage. The plot was inspired by the famous Mexican director Alejandro Gonzale Iñállitu's 2000 film Love is a Dog.
This film is an exhibit of the 59th Berlin International Film Festival "International New Film Forum".
In honor of the death of supporting actor Liao Qizhi due to cancer, TVB arranged to rerun the film on April 3, 2021 at 8:30 pm on Jade Channel under the title of "Remember you Forever Liao Qizhi: Witness".
Tang Fei, sergeant of Group A of the Yuen Long District Special Duty Team in Hong Kong, had just finished an anti-bandit operation when he happened to see the car of Zhang Ridong, a major suspect in the robbery of Jin Xing, who had escaped from robbery that morning, so he immediately accompanied his partner Xinye to drive after him. When the car was chased to an intersection, a jeep rushed straight from the cross-side and caused a serious car accident. Zhang Ridong and his gang abandoned the car and snatched the car of prosecutor Gao Min, who had gotten off the car and talked on the phone at the time, and continued to flee, Tang Fei shot the car three times and hit the car out of control and hit the road pole, resulting in Zhang Ridong, who was not wearing a seat belt, hitting the glass on his head and deeply unconscious. However, Tang Fei suddenly found gao min's daughter Ding Yi lying in the trunk of the car, dying from the three shots he had fired. Three months later, Tang Fei was transferred out of the front line and began to secretly approach and take care of Gao Min's youngest daughter Ding Ling, who looked the same as her sister Ding Yi as twins and did not know that her sister was dead. In order to help his dead daughter get justice, Gao Min served as the prosecutor who tried Zhang Ridong's case, obtaining blood samples that flowed out of Zhang Ridong's scene when he robbed Jin Xing a year ago as key physical evidence. But Zhang Ridong's accomplices, in order to enable him to be acquitted, paid for a Hong Jing, who had changed from a former boxer to a killer, and took the opportunity to kidnap her daughter Ding Ling during a mother's day outing at the elementary school. After Tang Fei learns of Ding Ling's abduction near the restaurant, he clashes with Hong Jing but loses his head due to an old head injury, and Gao Min then receives a phone call from the other party threatening to hand over the blood sample and ensure Zhang Ridong's acquittal. After Hong Jing took Ding Ling home and took care of her, she also had to take care of her wife Yali, who was paralyzed and unable to speak. In order to get enough money to pay off his debts and raise enough money for his wife's treatment, Hong Jing had to obey his employer's orders to take care of Ding Ling.
In order to save Ding Ling, Tang Fei began to run around for help, but also to avoid letting his superiors know and rely on Xinye's connections to track down. After finding the phone card thrown away by an unknown person who had called Gao Min, Tang Fei went to ask for help from his cousin and former subordinate Dami, who had been scolded by him countless times, and apologized for his previous rude attitude before asking him to agree to help. Gao Min's mobile phone receives a short message from the imprisoned Ding Ling, and Dami is able to lock the sms to an area. On the other hand, Hong Jing was called by a neighbor to complain because of the blockage of the sewers in his home, and he had to transfer Ding Ling to Yali's bedroom downstairs. At this time, Yali's body began to hurt severely, and the prescription medicine bottle on the shelf accidentally fell to the ground, mixing a variety of capsules together. Hong Jing could not see the color of the capsule clearly because of the old eye injury, and could only find Ding Ling to classify the corresponding colors of all the medicines before saving YaLi's life.
Tang Fei was checking around the area day and night, and when the new grandfather who was acting with him helped buy lunch, he just happened to bump into Hong Jing, who had come to buy food, in the restaurant. Xinye relied on the gray-eyed features tang Fei had encountered to inform Tang Fei by text messages, and Hong Jing sensed that he was being followed and escaped through the back door, and after a thrilling street chase, Hong Jing was rounded up by most criminal police or fled. Because Yali could not speak, Tang Fei and the others could only call an ambulance to take her to the hospital, but Hong Jing secretly got into the car with Ding Ling, abducted and snatched the ambulance in the tunnel, and the new master who was left on the side of the road secretly left his mobile phone in the car for tracking.
By tracking down Xinye's cell phone signal, Da Mi informs Tang Fei to follow him to a deserted desalination plant where Hong Jing is hiding. Hong Jing was eager to complete the task in order to save his wife, and during the expedition, Yali helped to pull The Rope of Song DingLing, so that she could meet Tang Fei after running away. Gao Mingang wanted to deliver the goods to the kidnappers, but when he received a call from Tang Fei informing him that his daughter had been saved, he immediately decided to use evidence to accuse Zhang Ridong and convict him and imprison him. In the course of the fierce fight, Tang Fei and Hong Jing buried Ding Ling alive by the sand and stones on the top, and Tang Fei rescued Ding Ling after beating Hong Jing hard, and only woke her up after crying bitterly and uttering heartfelt words. At this time, Hong Jing, who had completely lost his vision due to a blow to the head, gave up the struggle and begged Tang Fei to take him back to his wife.
After Hong Jing and Yali were reunited with tears, the couple recalled that when they had an argument and went out for a walk three months ago, they snatched a jeep to escape from debt collectors. However, Yali found Linpeng approaching on the way to escape, causing Hong Jing to drive at full speed in order to rush to the hospital, ignoring the red light in front of him and crashing into the car of Tang Fei and Zhang Ridong, who were chasing at that time. The couple then collided with the steel bar, causing Hong Jing's eyes to be injured, and Yali also lost her child and became a vegetative person. Tang Fei, Hong Jing, and Gao Min met and changed their lives because of the car accident; Tang Fei immediately called for police reinforcements, Yali was sent for treatment, and Hong Jing was arrested and punished by law. The rescued Ding Ling returned safely to Gao Min's side and the mother and daughter were reunited, so that Tang Fei could completely atone for his sins.
