The summer is over, and the band doesn't: recommend a few band-themed comics

It's a bit of a band's summer, and I recommend some band-themed comics.

This kind of comic is not easy to draw, because the picture cannot directly express the music, and can only use actions and lines to make dumb speech.

We've put together ten band-themed comics, all of which are uneven in level, but all representative. We like some of them, we don't like others, and the rest is up to you.

BECK Rock New Orchestra

Author: HAROLD as a stone

Number of volumes: 34 volumes

I know that "BECK" is in the magazine "Popular Songs" that once enlightened rock youth. In addition to driving Gundam, 14-year-olds can also form bands and play Garage bands. It's a tough road, and the musicians have experienced enough depression, confusion and pain, but when the guitar is played on stage, the power released by the music supports the protagonists to go on.

BLUE GIANT BLUE STAR

Author: Shinichi Ishizuka

Number of volumes: The first two parts have been completed, and the third part is in the series

Jazz-themed manga, twice selected for Japan's "This manga is really great!" List. It tells the story of ordinary high school students practicing playing saxophone by the river every day, and then forming a band and moving from a tavern to Europe and the United States, the birthplace of jazz.

The Riverside Practice Saxophone pays homage to the long-dead jazz genius Kaoru Abe, and the manga title Blue Giant is from jazz master John Coltrane's famous albums Blue Train and Giant Steps.

Gravity

Author: Maki Murakami

Number of volumes: 12 volumes

This is an early decay. The love story between the poisonous tongue erotic novelist and the simple lead singer is recommended because the band has a lot of content and is a pop rock (Pop rock) band. The author is good at dealing with sensationalism and funny, and does not contain meat, clear water, boys can also watch.

DMC Heavy Metal Rock Two-Faced Man

Author: Wakasa Kotoku

Number of volumes: 10 volumes

DMC is the most crazy, funny, metaphorical band comic. The harmless young man who loves to listen to popular music is The Death Metal lead singer Clausa II, who performs on stage with a change of temperament: hatred of human beings, anti-social. Comics have created a lot of politically incorrect memes, such as singing 11 rapes per second, and now, they may receive different reviews.

Highlights: Fancy swearing

"Youth Chocolate"

Author: Katsuaki Sasaki / Ryo Shimizu / Kenchi Otsuki / Work

Number of volumes: 6 volumes

Wenqing comics, the protagonists may all be on the Douban. Boys who like art, rock, and movies meet girls who can talk about Truffaut and King Crimson, or beautiful girls. For reasons of uneasiness, the boys formed a rock band.

"Youth Chocolate" is a slightly sad tone of youth remembrance, bitter with sweetness. Its male perspective is more empathetic to male readers, many of whom have met or expected to meet such a woman during adolescence.

"I'm Crazy Comic Version"

Number of volumes: Black & White 26, Color 18

As a childhood memory of the post-90s generation, "I Am Crazy for Song" opens up a hazy understanding of music, youth and dreams. It's a mainstream but outdated story with a jump-style friendship, effort, and triumph at its core. Looking back nearly 20 years later, there are still many bright spots, but unfortunately, the late stage is chaotic, hastily concluded, and there are no domestic works to continue to explore this road.

NANA - The Other Me in the World

Author: Ai Yazawa

Volume: 21 volumes, in serialization

The rock 'n' roll enlightenment of Chinese girls is also a large promotional comic by Vivienne Westwood. It tells the life story of two girls with the same name, Komatsu Nana and Nana Osaki, who meet on a train, and the punk band in which the protagonist works is a rather important part of the work. Comics have a big impact, many people buy cups with strawberries printed on them, and some people think that bald heads look good for the first time.

"Through the Strings"

Author: Yuyuki Nagata × Ichihachi Machida

Volume: 13 volumes, in progress

Also known as "Rustic Me and Strange Uncle". The story of the usually unknown English teacher at school who encounters the ghost of Jimmy Hendricks, the "god of the guitar" who can only be seen by himself, and synchronizes with him through the intubation of the back of the head to form a band to get a new life. The introduction alone is very eye-catching, with a rather infectious rhythm, and the picture and storyboard are quite arrogant. The author himself should also be a music fan, and it is a very exciting social animal dream to read.

"Solanin"

Author: 120 Asano

Number of volumes: 2 volumes

Asano's early masterpiece was adapted into the film Music and Road. The pure realist comic, telling the story of the love between the male and female protagonists who are already social people and the life stories of other friends in the band, depicting the nameless young musicians facing the confusion of society, the climax of the drama is very full, and one of the biggest highlights is the extremely wonderful and carefully designed storyboard, so that the whole comic is filled with a movie-like atmosphere.

《Buzzy Noise》

Author: Jun Mutsuki

Number of volumes: all 5 volumes

Solanin's continuation in the Heisei generation is also love and music. Very clean and refreshing, close to the illustration style, a rare comic that visually expresses music, every time the protagonist is in a bad mood or plays pleasant music, there will be messy black lines or brisk bubbles on the screen.

It tells the story of the encounter and fall in love between the male and female protagonists who have their own difficult lives and make choices in life and music, and although it is full of noise, the atmosphere is quite gentle and quiet, and it is a rather emotional manga.

Highlights: The music of the Heisei generation is indeed electronic music
