The Gods Must Be Crazy is a 1980 film directed and written by Jamey Youis. Funded entirely by local sources, the film is the most successful commercial film in the history of the South African film industry. This movie is the first in the "God Crazy Too" series of films. Set in Botswana, the film tells the story of a primitive man in the Kalahari Desert named "Qi" (played by Bushman Lisu), a Bushman who does not know the modern world, accidentally picks up a Coca-Cola bottle that has fallen from an airplane, and a series of interesting stories follow.

Qi and his tribesmen live "richly" in the Kalahari Desert and they feel happy because in their minds God provides them with everything they want every day and no one has other needs. One day a Coca-Cola bottle fell from the plane to the ground, and at the beginning Qi picked up the bottle, and when Qi took the bottle back to the tribe, they felt that the bottle was beautiful like a work of art, which must be another "gift" given to them by God. They found a lot of uses for this bottle, they used it as a tool to make crafts, to use it to play beautiful music, and so on. But unlike the things they had been given before, there was only one bottle, and everyone wanted to take it for themselves, and soon they found themselves becoming jealous, angry, and even fighting.
Since the bottle caused resentment among the tribes, Qi, after consulting with the elders, considered it an "evil thing" and that God had been careless in giving them this gift. Some attempts to dispose of the bottle fail, and Qi agrees to go on a pilgrimage to the edge of the world to solve this seemingly cursed matter.
Along the way, he met a variety of different people. There's Andrew Stein, a biologist who studies local animals; Kate Thompson, a newly hired school teacher in the village; a guerrilla group led by Sam Boga who has just lost the battle and is being hunted down by government forces; a safari guide named Jack Hinde; and Stein and his assistant and mechanic, M'pudi (a land rover repairing his eccentric temper).
On this day, just when Qi was hungry, he saw a livestock shed, and he shot a goat with an anesthesia gun. Soon after, Qi was arrested and imprisoned for this incident. M'pudi had lived with the Bushes before and spoke odd dialects, and in his experience, Odd couldn't get out if he was caught in prison, so he and Stein applied to let Chi be their guide instead of jail. Meanwhile, guerrillas arrive at Kate's school and take Kate and her students hostage to help them flee across the border to neighboring countries. Stein, M'Pudi and Odd soon discover that the place where they worked was on the path chosen by the terrorists. Later, they successfully blocked the guerrillas and rescued Kate and her students.
At the end of Odd's tenure, Stein insisted on giving him his salary and sending him where he wanted to go. At the same time, Stein also began a relationship with Kate, although he seemed very clumsy in front of women.
