After Li Qingshan mailed a letter for Xuemei, Xuemei's father finally found the whereabouts of his daughter.
The film doesn't end there, because it designed two different endings.
The domestic version is that in the end, all the abducted women in the village can be rescued, but when their "family" chases after them with their children, they choose to stay because they can't bear it, and only Xuemei head embarks on the way home without returning.
The foreign version is: Xuemei and her father are isolated, and finally Huang Degui and Xuemei's father wrestle together, and Xuemei angrily raises her knife and slashes at Huang Degui...
No matter which version it is, it is a heart-wrenching ending.
There are two scenes in the whole movie that are really unforgettable, one is when Xuemei was first defiled by Huang Degui, she was lying on the bed with a numb face, no struggle or crying, which was powerless heart death.
The other is that when Xuemei's father found her, she did not cry, or even have any excited look, but just said, "How did you come?" ”
The whole movie is filled with a sense of desperate powerlessness, the baby girl who was thrown into the river because of the preference for sons over daughters, and the abducted women confessed their lives... This commonplace and strangeness is simply fatal, it fills life with calm hopelessness and negativity, and seems to form a powerful negative energy that envelops the person tightly until it suffocates. Fortunately, Xuemei was never assimilated.
In the initial desperate situation, Xuemei committed suicide to seek relief, but was saved, and she still had to suffer in hell.
In order to escape from the first glimmer of life, Xuemei has a relationship with Huang Degui's cousin Huang Decheng, but finds that she has only been deceived once again. In exchange for a ticket for 40 yuan, Xuemei willingly used her body to exchange with the commissary owner, but was eventually arrested. She tossed and turned again and again, always refusing to give in, but she did not get any kindness.
When the women in the village, who were also abducted, persuaded Xuemei to confess her life, she had a deep helplessness of rabbit death and fox sorrow. Xuemei can't "keep to herself", as an intellectual woman, what she wants is not an immutable monotonous life, but a spiritual freedom. Is it possible to be trapped here?
When we see the ugliness of "Blind Mountain", we will feel a chill. This is why, in the foreign version of the ending, Xuemei and her father will be powerless.
When Xuemei slashed at Huang Degui, did it bring her shackles or relief? When she stares blankly into the distance, is there the hope of life or the end of life? We have no way of knowing, but even the scourge of prison can be better than this cruel purgatory on earth!
No one has the courage to watch "Blind Mountain" again, ignorant villagers, paid mailers, inactive village cadres, helpless law enforcement officers, these people of all kinds compete to show the sinister hearts of the people. The most frightening thing is that people are used to this.
Some people think "Blind Mountain" is too dark, but how many sad things are happening in the corner where the sun can't find it? It is the "dark web" that people can't explore, the real world hidden under the daylight.
In fact, in reality, most of the women who are abducted and trafficked are migrant girls, so why does "Blind Mountain" set the heroine as a female college student? First, of course, to restore the tragic fate of the female master mentioned in the opening chapter; second, it is to warn the audience that high education does not mean that they will not be deceived; third, to highlight the awakening of intellectual women.
After all, most of the women who are trafficked are eventually forced to confess their lives, and since the children are also there, where to give up? This is the naked reality.

Huang Lu, the heroine of "Blind Mountain", once said that during the filming of the film, some villagers actually asked the crew: "How much does it cost to buy this woman (Huang Lu)?" This simply stunned the entire creative team and strengthened the determination of this film to continue to be made.
