On January 14, the Spanish architect Ricardo Bofill died at the age of 82.
When it comes to Spanish architects, most people's first reaction is Gaudí. In fact, Pofi is also one of Spain's most famous architects, he has left more than 1,000 works in dozens of countries, including a large number of apartments, hotels, office buildings, airports and other commercial projects.
As early as the 1980s, Pofi's works were too utopian to be accepted by the public. He also used to describe his architecture as "failure", but decades later, his work became popular.
In last year's hit drama "Squid Game", all players walked through the maze, and the strong collision of colors was impressive, and its prototype was written by Bofi.

A red house standing by the sea
Too dreamy
At the first glance of a red-walled apartment, it's hard not to be drawn to the colors.
The contrast between the warm red façade and the blue sea gives the apartment its name.
As early as 1973, Pofi built it.
When the red-walled apartment was first built, it was regarded as a utopian building because of its isolation.
So nearly 50 years later, it has become an Internet celebrity again, and a steady stream of people have driven to see the high value of this "castle" on the coastal cliffs and leave their own beautiful shadows. MISS is not surprising at all. After all, from its location to its appearance, it fits the highest level of imagination for dreams.
The sharp geometric lines are also a feature of the apartment.
Stacked staircases and interconnected bridges make the modeling fun and provide a wealth of space for photography enthusiasts to play.
The bright appearance is wrapped in a calm interior.
On the patio, the colors are converted to cool tones. Progressing from sky blue, indigo, to violet, it reflects the pale sky and occasionally merges with changing rays of light.
There are a total of 50 houses inside the Red Wall, including three types of apartments from small to large: 60 square meters studio, 80 square meters of two-bedroom apartments, and 120 square meters of three-bedroom apartments, to meet various living needs. Public spaces are also full of life.
Not only are the courtyards and corridors lined with flowers and plants, but on the roof terrace, the cross-shaped swimming pool, sauna, and solarium are all pre-designed.
At present, there are many homestays in the apartment, which are specially designed to welcome distant guests. Looking out onto the sea from the terrace, you can see the rock landmarks that are eye-catching.

Vertical maze
Bofi's talent is vividly displayed in these early works of the 1970s and 1980s.
Among them, Walden 7 in Barcelona is worth mentioning.
The "mega fortress", built in 1975, encountered the same problems as the Red Wall and was not accepted by the public.
From it, you can find a lot of similarities with the red-wall apartment.
For example, its tense color matching, the appearance is terracotta red, the inside is lake green, and there are indigo tile edges in the corridor.
It is also a labyrinthine building.
The intricate interweaving of the covered bridges and balconies inside brings a rich and diverse sense of space.
The apartments are spread over 18 towers connected to each other, with a maximum of 16 floors.
Five open atriums point directly to the sky, with bright light, pleasant vegetation, and exquisite fountains, and 446 residences can also enjoy the view of both sides and the outside.
After all, it is an apartment building, and Bofi also fully considers the needs of the residents.
In the apartment of 30 square meters, he set up a kitchen, toilet, bathroom, table and lockers. Curtains are installed in the room to protect the privacy of the occupants.

This magnificent complex, which looks very uninhabitative, also has names that don't sound like dwellings — "Theater", "Arches" and "Palace".
But they really are apartments.
In the 1980s, Bofi's architectural style began to be influenced by neoclassicism, fully borrowing from the Renaissance and Baroque styles.
The Apartment Les Espaces d'Abraxas on the outskirts of Paris is a typical example and has become a monument to live.
Les Espaces d'Abraxas consists of three buildings, namely the "Theater", "Arches" and "Palace".
Among them, the "palace" is 18 stories high with a total of 441 residences, the semi-circular apartment "Theater" has 130 residences, and there are only 20 houses located in the middle "arch".
The semicircular "theater" wraps around the green square, sending people down the steps to the "arch" in the center of the stage, and finally stepping into the towering "palace" in the background.
Due to its surreal style, the apartment has been favored by many film and television dramas, including "The Hunger Games", which has been filmed here.

He was a nomad
A thousand works were left behind
Many call Pofi "a pioneer of the Spanish postmodernist style", always bringing surreal, film-only designs into reality.
This is inseparable from Pofi's early "nomadic" experience.
The young Pofi, a radical Marxist and anti-Franco dictatorship, was forced to drop out of the Barcelona School of Architecture after being arrested during a protest march. Later, he went to Switzerland and completed his architecture studies at the École Supérieure des Beaux-Arts in Geneva.
After graduation, Pofi returned to Barcelona to work for his father's architectural development company. He did the opposite, bringing together filmmakers, designers, philosophers, and even writers to form the studio RBTA.

Recalling the time when you were expelled from Switzerland as a young man because of political movements, Pofi said that sometimes difficult years are not a bad thing, and it will shape your character in some way.
He called himself a "nomad".
"That's my life, I love it, it gives me a lot of knowledge about other countries and other systems. I met people of different nationalities, different nationalities, different cultures. This gives me a different perspective on the world, a very flexible perspective. ”
Bofi enjoyed a travel-like life, working in different parts of the world, which interested him in these countries and eventually took the design there. As a result, he left more than 1,000 works in dozens of countries.
Pofi once said, "Fantasy is an imagination that flows endlessly, closer to delirium." Creativity, on the other hand, requires quiet thinking and the integration of ideas into well-organized mechanisms. I've spent my life looking for the equation between maximizing free fantasy and maximizing free creativity, but in the end, absolute freedom, like absolute pleasure, simply doesn't exist. It's like a race between a bunch of Greyhounds, just chasing the air. ”
