On January 13, China Biological Official Micro officially announced that the freeze-dried human rabies vaccine (Vero cells) produced by the China Changchun Institute of Biological Products (Vero cells) was officially approved for marketing.
Since Changchun Changsheng was punished and forcibly delisted in 2018 for falsifying the lyophilized human rabies vaccine, the domestic rabies vaccine supply has been insufficient.
Chengda Biologics, Ningbo Rongan and Guangzhou Nuocheng are currently the main suppliers of rabies vaccines in China. Huaxi Securities released a research report in July 2020 saying that Guangzhou Nuocheng has not issued any batch since February 2019, and Ningbo Rongan resumed batch issuance in 2020, but due to the need for procurement operation time limits, it cannot be supplied in the short term. At the time of the research report, there was a shortage of rabies vaccine in more than 10 provinces and cities such as Guangdong, Shandong, Hebei and Sichuan.
In the case of "changes" in Guangzhou Nuocheng and Ningbo Rong'an, Chengda Biology has become the biggest winner of the domestic rabies vaccine. According to statistics, in 2020, the number of rabies vaccine batches issued in China was 78.5529 million, and 35.91 million were approved by Chengda Biologics, accounting for 45.71% of the total batch issuance.
On October 28, 2021, Chengda Bio was spun off from Liaoning Chengda and almost relied on a breed of rabies vaccine.
According to the Head Leopard Research Institute, the market size of China's rabies vaccine industry was 2.9 billion yuan in 2018 and is expected to reach 7 billion yuan in 2023. Nowadays, the rabies vaccine born in Sinopharm has been approved, which will alleviate the current rabies vaccine tension and become a powerful competitor of Chengda Biology.
