According to Chilean media la Tercera, Arturo Vidal sent a letter to FIFA, hoping that they would reduce the number of suspensions for their national teams.
Vidal was sent off by a straight red penalty in the face of Chile's match against Ecuador last November, meaning he would miss Chile's next games against Argentina, Bolivia and Brazil.
The Inter midfielder, who has now sent a letter to FIFA asking for a reduction in the suspension, said he did not act on purpose and expressed regret and apologies for the foul, while saying he had explained to Felix Torres himself and referee-in-charge Fernando Raparini after the match.
The Chilean Football Federation will support Vidal's application and provide audio and video materials as well as the history of the players' past behaviour on the pitch as evidence.
If the appeal fails, Vidal will only be able to play in the last World Cup in Chile against Uruguay.
