"Sorbitol Supply" Sorbitol application in the polymer industry

According to the understanding of Beite Chemical: sorbitol (sorbitol) is a white hygroscopic powder or a crystalline powder, flake or granule, odorless. Depending on the crystallization conditions, the melting point varies in the range of 88~102°C, and the relative density is about 1.49. Easily soluble in water (1 g soluble in about 0.45 mL of water), slightly soluble in ethanol and acetic acid. It has a cool sweetness, the sweetness is about half that of sucrose, and the calorific value is similar to that of sucrose. Sorbitol solution is a clear and colorless syrupy liquid with a sweet taste, neutral to litmus, and can be miscible with water, glycerin and propylene glycol.

Sorbitol applications in the polymer industry:

Sorbitol can be used as a polyol composition of alkyd resins and rosin esters. Polyoxypropylene-based derivatives of sorbitol are widely used in the manufacture of polyurethane rigid foam.

When sorbitol replaces glycerol and pentaerythritol, it can obtain a fast-drying film-forming alkyl resin with good gloss adhesion and strength.

The complex of sorbitol with various metal salts is a heat-resistant and light-resistant stabilizer of PVC resin.

The addition of sorbitol to the collagen film can greatly increase its CO2 resistance permeability.

Sorbitol fatty acid ester can be used as plasticizer, lubricant and anti-fogging agent for vinyl resins and other polymers.

Monolaurates such as sorbic anhydride are used as molding agents in the suspension polymerization of vinyl chloride to control the size, specific surface and porosity of plastic particles.
