On January 5, local time, EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Borelli visited the Luhansk region in eastern Ukraine and reiterated his support for the claim of "Ukraine's sovereignty and territorial integrity". On the same day, US Secretary of State Blinken met with German Foreign Minister Berberk and said that if Russia "invades" Ukraine, it will stop the Nord Stream-2 gas project. On January 6, Russia will hold emergency talks with Ukraine, Germany and France on Ukraine.

According to Reuters, Borrell met with Ukrainian Foreign Minister Ureba in a joint meeting with reporters and reiterated the EU's support for "Ukraine's sovereignty and territorial integrity". At the same time, Borrelli warned that Russia would pay a heavy price if it "invaded" Ukraine. He revealed that the EU is negotiating with the United States and NATO to ease the current tension between Russia and Ukraine. "At present, the border conflict between Russia and Ukraine is on the verge of erupting, and the security situation across Europe has become tense," he said. If Ukraine is not safe, then Europe will not be safe either. Borrell is the first senior EU official to visit the eastern region since the Ukraine crisis erupted in 2014. On January 6, local time, he will also meet with Ukrainian President Zelenskiy.

On the same day, Blinken and Bellbock met in Washington. Reuters reported that Blinken said that if Russia "invades" Ukraine, then Germany should stop the Nord Stream-2 gas pipeline project with Russia. Belbucker said Russia is prohibited from using energy to interfere in European affairs.

The Interfax news agency previously said that on January 6, local time, Ukraine, Russia, Germany and France will hold emergency talks in Moscow on the Ukrainian crisis, which will be chaired by Dmitry Kozak, deputy director of the Office of the President of the Russian Federation. This is the first quadripartite talks to be held in accordance with the Normandy model since 2019. Jens Protener, foreign policy adviser to German Chancellor Schoerz, and Emmanuel Bonnet, a diplomatic adviser to French President Emmanuel Macron, will attend, but it is unclear who will represent Ukraine.

Russia has responded many times to the so-called "invasion of Ukraine" allegations by Western countries, saying that the Russian side has not threatened anyone and does not intend to attack anyone. According to the plan, Russia will hold a security dialogue with the United States, NATO and the OSCE on January 10, 12 and 13, respectively.
