At the Sony CES conference, the official name of the next-generation model of PS VR was determined to be "PlayStation VR 2", supporting 4K HDR, and the controller was named "PlayStation VR2 Sense Controller". The PS VR2 features high-fidelity visuals, new sensory features and enhanced tracking capabilities, as well as simplified single-wire setup.
Visual Fidelity: For a high-fidelity visual experience, the PS VR2 offers 4K HDR, 110-degree field of view, and fove point rendering. With oled displays, players can expect a monocular display resolution of 2000×2040 and a smooth frame rate of 90/120Hz.
Headset-based controller tracking: With inside-out tracking, PS VR2 tracks you and your controller through an integrated camera embedded in the VR headset. Your movements and the direction you look in will be reflected in the game, without the need for an external camera.
New sensory features: PS VR2 Sense technology combines eye tracking, headphone feedback, 3D audio and the innovative PS VR2 Sense controller to create an incredible sense of deep immersion. Headset feedback is a new sensory feature that amplifies the player's sense of in-game action. It is created by a single built-in motor with vibrations, adding an intelligent haptic element that brings players closer to the gaming experience. For example, a gamer can feel a character's pulse accelerating during a tense moment, an object near the character's head, or the thrust of a vehicle as the character accelerates forward. In addition, PS5's Tempest 3D AudioTech brings the sounds around the player to life, adding to this new sense of immersion.
Eye Tracking: With eye tracking, the PS VR2 can detect the movement of your eyes, so simple observations in a specific direction can create additional input for the game character. This allows players to interact more intuitively in new, realistic ways that enhance emotional responses and enhance expressions, providing a new sense of realism in the game.
All of these advances in the PlayStation VR2, combined with the tactile feedback and adaptive triggers of the PS VR2 Sense controller, allow players to feel and interact with the game in a more instinctive way. The PS VR2 will also have a simple setup process – just connect a cable directly to the PS5 and you'll be able to enter the VR experience in no time.
Horizon VR is confirmed to be in development as Horizon VR: Call of the Mountain, which will land on PS VR2, developed by Guerrilla and Firesprite.
This unique experience is built specifically for PlayStation VR2 to drive hardware technology, innovation, and gameplay. Stunning visuals and the new PlayStation VR2 Sense controller give new meaning to being fully immersed in the world of horizons. The production team doesn't want to reveal much at the moment, but the story will be told through the perspective of a whole new character.
