The person who pioneered the development of Korean gem paintings and spared no effort for them was Shin Fenghua.
In September 1980, Shin Graduated from Pyongyang University of Fine Arts and was assigned to the Korean Painting Creation Troupe of the Mansudae Creative Society as an artist. In 1984, he was inspired by the founding gem painting at a construction site.
One day in the hot reality of the creative activities, he saw the on-site technicians creating and inventing a sample of stone powder paint, and from it came up with an idea: to use colored stone powder to paint.
From the next day on, he painted with stone powder in his spare time, gradually perfecting the new method of painting creation and making his own painting tools.
People were amazed to see his debut work, a stone powder painting.
Later, Shin Fung-hwa's stone powder paintings were named North Korean gem paintings, and he was also appointed as the head of the Korean Gem Painting Creation Troupe of the newly formed Mansudae Creation Society.
Thanks to the active efforts of him and his colleagues, Korean gem painting developed into an independent form of painting in a short period of time, occupying a certain position in the art world. He obtained the right to invent the national invention of his Method of Creating North Korean Gem Paintings created from unchanging materials, and won gold medals and awards at the 88 Beijing International Invention Exhibition.
North Korean gem paintings such as "Pigeon Dance", "On Ice", and "Lively and Romantic Girl Period" have been registered in the National Collection Catalog because of their vivid colors, elegant colors, realistic textures and three-dimensional textures, and the decorative effects of various materials that make people feel charming.
Shen Fenghua has participated in many art exhibitions held at home and abroad and won special awards, gold medals and awards.
In June 2012, the 20th International Festival kicked off in St. Petersburg, Russia. Visitors were amazed when they saw the North Korean gem paintings, saying that it was unimaginable to create such a beautiful picture from the world's roughest stones, and only North Koreans could do it.
People's Artist and Dr. Shin Bong-hwa said: "Korean gem paintings are the treasures of the Korean nation. I have given my life for a better future of Korean gem painting. ”
