Survey: Even CEOs are worried about losing their jobs due to industry chaos

CEOs with greater power are as worried about the safety of their jobs as anyone else — and, indeed, perhaps more so. According to a new report released by global consultancy AlixPartners, it is jaw-dropping that 72% of CEOs are worried that the chaos facing their industry will lead them to lose their jobs.

That number rises 20 percentage points from a year ago, when 52 percent of CEOs told AlixPartners they were anxious about safety at work.

Since the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic, the pace of fanatical changes in businesses and the world has accelerated, which has also led to a surge in anxiety among CEOs.

94 percent of executives have had their business model needed to change over the next three years, but 57 percent are concerned that their company won't adapt quickly enough.

Simon Freakley, CEO of AlixPartners, told Axios: "(Even) in the best of circumstances, the CEO's job is stressful... These statistics illustrate that senior managers are under pressure to move quickly and flexibly to new strategies. ”

This year, CEOs are most concerned about overhauling global supply chains today and in the future and reimagining hiring and retention in the face of rapidly changing skill needs.

That's because digital transformation has reshaped a company's workflow — even disruptors, according to Freakley.

In any case, it's a sign of today's increasingly complex business environment, where CEO anxiety is on the rise.
