OneWeb announced a partnership with Excelerate to ensure first responders are always there

In partnership with Excelerate, a global hybrid connectivity provider, OneWeb recently announced that it will help first responders stay connected to the Internet to do their important work. While cellular connectivity is generally available in building-intensive areas, it can become less reliable in rural and remote areas.

In addition to first responders, the partnership will also help connect government agencies and public sector organisations in the UK and around the world.

Similar to SpaceX, which launched Starlink satellites to transmit the Internet to Earth, OneWeb has a constellation of satellites that can do the same. Instead of offering its services to the average consumer, it appears to be fighting for more specialized clients, including communications providers and military forces, as it could lead to greater financial success.

Commenting on today's news, Dylan Browne, Head of Government Services at OneWeb, said: "When dealing with crisis situations, the flexible communication of first responders is crucial because they ensure that data is shared in a timely manner across teams on the ground and places like hospitals or police stations. This will enable decision makers to see a more comprehensive picture with real-time information at their fingertips and be able to act accordingly."

Specifically, the company said its satellite system will be integrated into the primary, alternative, emergency and emergency (PACE) communications plan for first responders. This will enable real-time connectivity regardless of mobile internet conditions in the region.
