US media: Biden's inauguration will emphasize "unity"

The theme of President-elect Biden's inauguration will be "American unity," an issue that has long been the focus of Biden's attention, but became particularly important after last week's violence at the U.S. Capitol, Washington reported jan. 11.

In a statement, the presidential inauguration committee said the theme "reflects the beginning of a new national journey that restores the soul of America, unites the nation, and opens the way for a brighter future."

In keeping with the theme of unity, the committee also announced that after Biden's official inauguration, he and Vice President-elect Harris and their spouses will lay wreaths at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier at Arlington National Cemetery, which will also be attended by former presidents Barack Obama, George W. Bush and Clinton, as well as their wives. This will be Biden's first event as president, a demonstration of bipartisan cooperation in the face of severe divisions in the country.

Since winning the election, Biden has said on many occasions that he sees uniting the United States as one of his top priorities. But the challenges facing Biden have become even more apparent after President Trump incited an armed insurrection in the Capitol last week.

The report also said that security work will be tight. The National Park Service announced Jan. 11 that it would close public access to the Washington Monument until Jan. 24, citing a threat to the inauguration.

Biden did not express concern about his personal safety at the inauguration. He told reporters on the 11th: "I am not afraid to take the oath outdoors. ”

The report pointed out that Trump will not attend the inauguration, a decision Biden called a "good thing", but Vice President Pence and his wife plan to attend.
