This is the 165th launch of the Long March rocket and the fourth manned flight of the Shenzhou spacecraft.
The mission of the Shenzhou 9 spacecraft is to conduct China's first manned space rendezvous and docking with the Tiangong-1 target vehicle. Chinese astronauts of the People's Liberation Army Astronaut Brigade, Jing Haipeng, Liu Wang, and Liu Yang, formed a flight crew to carry out this mission, and they will represent Chinese staying in the "Tiangong" for the first time.

Jing Haipeng, one of the three astronauts, once visited space on Shenzhou 7 and had the experience of circling the earth for 45 times. After the completion of the Shenjiu mission, he became the "farthest flying person in China" at that time. Liu Yang, who was 34 years old at the time, was China's first female astronaut to fly into space, and was mainly responsible for the management of space medical experiments in this mission.
