Zhang Shuping, whose original name was Bingquan, was born in 1897 in Fangshan County, Shanxi Province. In 1917, he was admitted to the Shanxi Provincial No. 1 Middle School in Taiyuan, and was influenced by the progressive youths Wang Zhenyi, Gao Junyu, He Chang and others, and became interested in Marxist theory. During the May Fourth Movement, he participated in the lecture troupe organized by the Student Federation and actively participated in the revolutionary torrent. He joined the Chinese Socialist Youth League in 1923 and the Communist Party of China in 1924. In the same year, the Taiyuan branch of the Communist Party of China was established, and Zhang Shuping was elected as the first secretary of the branch. He actively carried out his work in accordance with the instructions of the CPC Northern Regional Committee. In just one year, grass-roots party organizations have been established in more than ten counties in southern Jinnan, Central Jin, and northern Jin. During this period, in accordance with the spirit of the resolution of the Third National Congress of the Party, he also effectively promoted the cooperation between the Kuomintang and the Communist Party of Shanxi Province and promoted the establishment of a revolutionary united front in the province.

After the outbreak of the May Thirtieth Movement in 1925, Zhang Shuping and the Taiyuan Branch of the Communist Party of China led the people of Shanxi to carry out a huge solidarity activity. In the winter of 1925, due to the emergence of a national revolutionary upsurge, cadres were urgently needed. Zhang Shuping came to Shanghai, successively served as the secretary of the CPC Shanghai Yangpu District Cpc Committee and the director of the Organization Department, and participated in the three armed uprisings of the Shanghai workers, which effectively promoted the development of the Shanghai workers' movement.

After the "April 12" counter-revolutionary coup in 1927, Zhang Shuping was transferred to Hangzhou to organize the Zhejiang Provincial Committee of the Communist Party of China. In June, the Zhejiang Provincial Committee of the Communist Party of China was established, and Zhang Shuping was appointed director of the Organization Department and minister of the Workers' Department, and then presided over the work of the provincial party committee. Soon after, he was arrested for betrayal by traitors. In prison, the enemy inflicted various tortures on him, such as pressing bars, sitting on electric chairs, pouring pepper water, and going to tiger stools, so that he was scaly and bruised, and his legs were crushed, but he did not give in and always adhered to the party's secrets.

On the night of January 20, 1928, Zhang Shuping was taken to the execution ground. Looking at the revolutionary comrades who were shot and killed by the enemy, Zhang Shuping regarded death as a homecoming and angrily rebuked the enemy: "Communism cannot be killed and killed endlessly!" Even if you throw your head away for communism, you are willing to take the cross for the toiling masses! The deranged executioner nailed Zhang Shuping's hands to the wall with eight-inch iron nails, and then used two long nails to pierce the hearts of his feet and nail them deep into the earth. With the gush of blood, Zhang Shuping shouted with all his might: "Down with the Kuomintang reactionaries!" "Long live the Chinese Communist Party!" Zhang Shuping was brave and righteous, only 31 years old.
