107 years old and 300 days! The two Japanese sisters became the world's longest-lived female twins

The Guinness World Records website released a message on the 20th that after certification, the Japanese Tanzan Ueno (transliteration) and Kodama Komei (transliteration) became the longest-lived female twins on record. As of September 1, when the two were certified as Guinness, they were 107 years and 300 days old.

The twins were born on November 5, 1913 in Shodou Island, Kagawa Prefecture, Japan. The two simultaneously broke another Guinness World Record, becoming the world's oldest female identical twins currently alive.

The sisters were born into a large family, the third and fourth of the 11 siblings in the family, and were the eldest and second daughters in the family. According to family members, the sisters like to make friends and have cheerful personalities.

According to their recollection, their childhood was not happy because twins were generally not welcomed in the region at an early age. After finishing elementary school, one person left Shodo Island to help his uncle's house in Oita Prefecture, while the other stayed on the island and started a family on the island. The two people's residences are hundreds of kilometers apart, and they don't usually see each other much. However, they traveled together several times when they were about 70 years old.

The sisters broke the Guinness Book of The World's oldest living female identical twins set by the Japanese People Miyo Narita Kane and Crab E-Yin (also known as Kim And Nishiki) at an age of 107 years and 175 days in 2000. Tanzan and Kodama once joked that they wanted to live as long as The Golden Mother-in-Law and the Silver Mother-in-Law.

The sisters now live in nursing homes in Kagawa and Oita prefectures, respectively. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the staff there handed over guinness world record certificates to the two of them. Tanzan burst into tears when he saw the certificate, and Kodama didn't seem to understand the significance of breaking the world record. However, according to her family, Kodama often talked about the Guinness World Records in the early years. (Qiao Ying)
