On May 25 this year, police brutality in Minneapolis, Minnesota, united States, led to the death of George Floyd, an African-American man, an incident that sparked a nationwide demonstration in the United States.
After the Floyd incident, all four police officers involved in the case were prosecuted. Among them, Drake Shawan, a white policeman who crushed Floyd's neck and caused his death, was charged with second-degree murder and second-degree manslaughter, while the remaining three were charged with assisting and abetting second-degree murder and second-degree manslaughter. The case is still pending.
According to CNN, court documents on the 28th show that Xiao Wan's lawyer said that there was not enough evidence to prove that Xiao Wan was convicted of murder and asked the judge to dismiss the murder charge.
In response, the Minnesota prosecutor responded that Floyd was "treated with particular cruelty" and died "in handcuffs and without the ability to resist", which constituted a heavier punishment, so once Shawan and others were convicted, the prosecution would seek a heavier sentence.
