According to the US "Overseas Chinese Daily" reported on October 13, the New York police in the United States have been wanting a gangster who violently robbed a sixty-year-old Chinese woman in the jurisdiction of the Brooklyn 88 sub-bureau for several days, and identified a professional criminal as the suspect in the case on the 11th. Who knew that the police made a mistake and revoked the man's arrest on the 12th, while continuing to call on the public to help the police capture the real murderer who is still at large.
According to police releases, the robbery occurred at about 4:41 p.m. sept. 28 at Willoughby St. St. A 65-year-old Chinese woman was passing by with her bag when an African-American man got off his bicycle and approached her. When the victims found the suspect and fled, the gangsters chased after them and snatched the bag from the victim's hand.
According to the video released by the police, the victimized Chinese woman desperately pulled the bag and did not let go, while the robbers repeatedly punched her in the face and dragged the victim on the ground. But the Chinese women who were dragged to their knees on the ground covered their faces with their left hands, while their right hands still clutched their bags. At the time of the crime, there were many onlookers at the scene, but no one came forward to help the Chinese women who were beaten and robbed. The attempted bag snatchers then pedaled away, and the Chinese woman was taken to the hospital for injuries to her face, back and other parts of her body, and her life-saving handbag contained the money she had sold for scrap.
After the case, the police issued a warrant for the arrest and updated late at night on Monday (11th) that the suspect in the case was Jeffrey Evans, 55, who had committed 11 crimes before, and also released an Evans facial photo asking the public to help track him down.
But on Tuesday afternoon (12th), the police changed direction, announcing that Evans was "no longer wanted for this investigation" because investigators found that he had alibi. According to an official at the City Police Headquarters, after detectives identified Evans as a suspect, it was soon learned that he was still being held on Lake Island on the day of the robbery, and that he was released the day after the robbery and taken to a drug rehabilitation center.
On the 12th, the police continued to want the violent robbers who were still at large, and appealed to those in the know to provide clues. (Cui Guoxuan)
