According to the Daily Mail on July 15, a former beauty cheerleader in Ohio was accused of killing her newborn daughter at the age of 17, burning her and burying her in her parents' backyard.
Brooke Skylar Richardson, 20, was charged in July 2017 with aggravated murder, manslaughter, endangering children, tampering with evidence and abusing corpses.
Earlier this month, she attended a hearing at the Warren County Ordinary Court of Appeals, which will begin Sept. 3.
According to the Cincinnati Inquiry, her lawyer, Charles M. Charles M. Littles said she suffered from anorexia and bulimia and made public about her weight and treatment.
Speaking about the Richardsons, he said the family had done their best to accompany Skilar.
Lawyers and prosecutors met privately in Judge Donald Oda II's chamber to discuss issues related to the trial. The trial is expected to begin on July 1 and last three weeks.
Skilar's lawyer, Charles, claims he often thinks about the case when he wakes up in the middle of the night. The case received a lot of attention due to intensive coverage on social media, which also led to a growing anxiety in Skilar.
Skilar, who was only 18 at the time, told doctors that her child was stillborn and that she had buried it in her parents' home in Carlisle Village, northern Cincinnati.
It was only a month before she went to college and only a few days before the May 2017 prom.
She insisted the baby was stillborn. A distinct bulge in her abdomen was visible in photos taken two days before Skilar gave birth to her baby, but her parents claim they never realized their daughter was pregnant.
Earlier this month, lawyers filed a motion asking the court to convict Skilar of serious murder, According to Fox 19.
The group of lawyers decided to put Skilar on charges of manslaughter and endangerment against children in another trial, arguing that she should be tried in a third trial for tampering with evidence and brutally abusing corpses. Her trial will begin on September 3.
County Attorney David Forncher said Skilar and her family, especially her mother, were very concerned about appearances and outside perceptions, claiming she was a good cheerleader and a good girl.
Many forensic experts have claimed that there is no indication that the baby was burned to death. Skilar's defense lawyers lashed out at prosecutors for exaggerating the facts of the case and making false statements.
Authorities initially learned of the baby's death from a doctor, who went to see the doctor for the first time in the weeks leading up to the delivery.
When she went to the doctor again, Skilar told the doctor that the child was stillborn and she buried it. Immediately afterwards, the hospital coroner's office immediately contacted the police.
When police arrived at her home, Skilar told them she had given birth to a baby girl named Annabel around 3 a.m. on May 7, 2017.
She said her daughter had never opened her eyes since birth, and Skilar held her for hours, but she showed no signs of life.
She buried the child in a place in the yard where she could see the child from her bedroom window, and she sprinkled pink rose petals she had worn at the prom on her daughter's grave.
In October 2018, her lawyer requested that her obstetrician-gynecologist be barred from testifying in court, citing a violation of both doctor-patient privacy regulations.
But according to Fox 19, the court rejected the lawyer's request.
Prosecutors said Mr. Skilar, then 18, told doctors in May 2017 that she did not want to have children a few months before going to college.
Warren County assistant prosecutor Kirsten Brandt said Mr. Skilar's response was extreme and excessive, and doctors said she had made clear to them that she had thought of hurting her child.
Brandt also claimed that the girl did not see a doctor for any ultrasound or blood tests, did not pay attention to the doctor's calls, and did not make any preparations for the baby's birth.
In October 2018, her lawyer lost an appeal.
