On May 3, local time, the funeral of Andrew Brown, an African-American man shot and killed by police in North Carolina, was held in Elizabeth, the state. In addition to Brown's relatives, several other relatives of victims and civil rights activists such as George Floyd who died as a result of police brutality also participated in the funeral.
At the funeral, Brown's relatives recounted Brown's life, calling him a caring, responsible family member and sharing a condemnation of the long-standing problem of police brutality and racial discrimination in the United States, saying such acts had deeply affected minorities, particularly African-Americans.
Ben Klemp, a lawyer hired by Brown's relatives, said he learned of Brown's death shot by police just hours after the white police officer Chauvin was found guilty of kneeling to kill Floyd. He demanded that authorities release all police enforcement tapes and stop the unjustified killing of African-Americans. Civil rights activist Al Sharpton called on Congress to pass the George Floyd Enforcement Justice Act and take action to make police wrongdoing pay the price. (CCTV reporter Liu Xu)
