There are 6 candidates in the campaign, including Wu Mengzhen, with a total of 3 vacant seats to run, and Wu Mengzhen is the first Asian candidate in El Monte City to stand up for the post of education committee in 150 years. As a candidate, popular voting is particularly important for Wu Mengzhen, who said in her speech that the district has about 16,000 voters, and she only needs to get 4,000 to 5,000 votes to win the teaching committee.
As a candidate, Wu Mengzhen has a strong support group, not only mr. Liu Rixing, chairman of the Miss World Taiwan Foundation, who promoted her campaign platform, but also Jerry G. Velasco, a city councilor in Elmont, canvassed for her. Andre Quintero, the mayor of The City of El monte, came from the city centre to support her campaign speech.
When asked why he chose to run for the position, Wu Mengzhen said: "With more and more new immigrants coming to the United States, the asian population of El Monte city is also growing year by year, and now it has reached about 35% to 40%. She chose to run for elementary school district board because she has been involved in education for more than 20 years and has served as a director of Chinese schools. In addition, she has also served as an art teacher for the getty Museum's after-school tutoring program, mainly teaching children in grades 3 to 5 to paint and art appreciation, and cultivating children's interest in painting and artistic taste from an early age. So her past experience has made her educational background very rich. She is also a current member of the Planning Commission of the City of Elmondi, so she is well aware of the educational situation in the city of El monte.
As a generation of immigrants who came to the United States at the age of 11, Wu Mengzhen can feel the needs of Asian immigrants in the United States and accurately propose solutions to their needs. She also said that she was the first person in her family to go to college, so she knew the value of education. After graduating from USC Business School, she aspired to pursue a career in education and help more Asians get better educational resources.
