Lhasa, November 27 (Zhao Lang) reporters learned from the Plateau Brain Science Research Center of Tibet University on the 27th that in the low-oxygen environment of the plateau in the range of 3600 meters to 3800 meters above sea level in Tibet, moderate exercise of plateau migrants can improve the body's oxygen carrying capacity, thereby effectively improving cognitive function, improving sleep quality, reducing depression and anxiety and other psychological symptoms. This kind of group of people is very suitable for the traditional Tibetan pot dance in the highland environment.

Ma Hailin, deputy director of the center, said in an interview with China News Network that long-term high-altitude exposure affects individual cognitive ability, such as perception, attention, memory, thinking, decision-making, etc., but the physiological origin of the impact of plateau exposure on cognitive function is still unclear.

Whether plains people are suitable for exercise after moving to the plateau, and whether exercise in a high-altitude and low-oxygen environment can improve brain cognitive function, these issues are the main topics of the Plateau Brain Science Research Center of Tibet University.

From September to December 2019, Ma Hailin's research team tested 130 college students who had emigrated to the plateau, all from plains below 1,000 meters above sea level.

The research team used physiological, behavioral, EEG, magnetic resonance imaging and other technical means to systematically test the subjects' living diet, sleep, exercise, disease, cognitive function, brain structure and other aspects, and explored the physiological and neural basis of the change in attention function caused by long-term high altitude exposure.

The experiment also recruited 40 Han Chinese immigrant college students from the plains to test the effects of long-term high-altitude Guozhuang exercise on the physiological and cognitive functions of plain migrants through 15 training sessions of tibetan traditional dance Guozhuang over 40 days. Studies have found that pot training can effectively improve the physiological and cognitive functions of plain migrant college students.

He said that the traditional Tibetan dance Guozhuang is sometimes cheerful and sometimes soothing, which is very suitable for carrying out in the plateau, and the Guozhuang exercise can not only improve the physiological and cognitive functions of the experimental subjects, but also effectively alleviate negative emotions such as anxiety and depression.

Later, Professor Ma Hailin's research team will also plan to carry out research on the effects of different exercise styles on the physical and mental functions of plateau residents, such as badminton, basketball, tai chi, etc. (End)
