The anniversary of the death of Zen master Daoji
Daoji Zen Master (1150-1209), a senior monk of the Yangqi sect of the Linji Sect in the Song Dynasty, was a native of Linhai (Taizhou, Zhejiang), and his common surname was Li. At the age of eighteen, when he went to the Lingyin Temple in Hangzhou, he made his home on the Fa Si Of the Yuanwu Keqin Zen Master, the Blind Hall Officiation.
The Daoji Zen master is obsessed with drinking meat, floating and sinking in the city, or playing games with the group, and the temple is cursed. Blind Hall Huiyuan Zen Master Yun: "The Buddha's door is vast, won't there be no one who is a monk?" Self-righteousness, known as "Ji Epilepsy".
When The Blind Hall Huiyuan Zen Master passed away, the Daoji Zen Master went to the Jingci Temple, relying on the Dehui Zen Master, as a record room. During this period, he repeatedly appeared miraculous and could not be described.
On May 16, 2005, Emperor Jiading of Song Ningzong died at Hupao Temple, 60 years old, and was buried in Hupao. Dying Zeng Shuyun:
For sixty years, the east wall hit the west wall.
Now that I have returned, I am still full of water.
Daoji Zen master Ling hidden monk, pure ci long residence, tiger running round silence, footprints all over Taizhou, Hangzhou landscapes and rivers, its magical elegance, debauchery experience is popular among the people, the Qing Dynasty literati wrote the "Jigong Living Buddha Biography" popular throughout the country, coupled with the spread of some film and television works, the name of "Jigong Living Buddha" can be described as known to women and children.
Lingyin Temple has the Jigong Hall on the east side of the Medicine Hall, which not only enshrines a bronze statue of Daoji Zen Master based on the portrait of Ji Gong made by the late Qing Dynasty painting monk Zhu Zen Master, but also displays eighteen murals depicting the life of Daoji Zen teachers and students on the walls around the hall.
These eighteen murals are three meters high and fifty meters long, surrounding the four walls of the Jigong Hall, and the colors are light and elegant, like a Jiangnan landscape painting slowly unfolding, showing the legendary life of Jigong. From these murals, people can also see the whole picture of Lingyin in the Southern Song Dynasty, in addition to the lush landscape, you can also find many details of the capital city: Lingyin Temple, Great Compassion Tower, Liuhe Pagoda, Jingci Temple, Leifeng Pagoda, West Lake, Qiantang River...
Today coincides with the anniversary of the death of Daoji Zen Master, let us follow these murals in the Jigong Hall of Lingyin Temple to understand the legendary life of this sage!
1. Ji Gong was born
Daoji Zen master, known as Jigong, commonly known as Li, is a native of Tiantai, Zhejiang. When Ji Gong was born, the statue of the descending dragon Arhat in the Luohan Hall of the Tiantai Guoqing Temple suddenly fell, and the people thought that Ji Gong was the reincarnation of the descending dragon arhat and a savior who eliminated harm for the people.
2. The Buddha's Fate in Childhood
Ji Gong's parents believed in Buddhism on weekdays, were happy to be charitable, and because they had children in middle age, they felt the grace of the Buddha, and took their sons to the Guoqing Temple to worship the Buddha. The Sexual Void Elder gently stroked its top and gave him the name Xiu Yuan. When Li Xiuyuan was young, he did not like to play, and he recited the Buddha trumpet, and the Buddha's fate gradually appeared.
Third, the spirit is hidden from home
When Ji Gong was eighteen years old, due to the death of his parents one after another, he aspired to become a monk. After traveling to the Lingyin Temple in Lin'an (Hangzhou, Zhejiang), he was slapped three times by Elder Huiyuan of the Blind Hall, realized the root nature of the past life, and the principle of karma, and then shaved. Ji Gong worshiped the elder of the blind hall as his teacher, and the elder gave him the name Daoji.
Fourth, the propagation of the Dharma
Help the poor and the needy, and persuade sentient beings. One day, Lu met dong Shihong, a filial son, who knew that he had sold his daughter for the funeral of his relatives ten years ago, and now he had lost money because of his search for a daughter, and he wanted to hang himself. Ji Gong pretended to hang himself, skillfully applied Buddha's wisdom, rescued Dong Sheng, and went to Zhao Mansion to treat his illness, using Zen to get rid of Dong Sheng's daughter.
Fifth, save the people from distress
Ji Gong was full of wisdom, and one day he had a premonition that a mountain peak was going to hurt a local village, and he advised the people to hide and no one believed it, but he was ridiculed. At this time, when the procession of marrying the bride was encountered, they snatched the bride and rushed forward. When the mountain peak landed, everyone was far away from the disaster because of the chase after Jigong.
Sixth, the vast number of Zen monks
Ji Gong broke his hat and broken his shoes and clothes, and the wine and meat did not leave his mouth, and the monks did not understand, always thinking that Ji Gong's move violated the precepts and rules, so he informed his teacher. The blind hall elder said, "The Zen gate is vast, so why not allow a monk to be a monk?" "The words of the elders are profound. Since then, people have also called Daoji Ji Ji.
Seventh, there is no danger in case of fire
Ji Gong stayed overnight in the Great Compassion Building, unfortunately, the Great Compassion Building caught fire, people thought that Ji Gong was suffering, but Ji Gong joked out of the building and was safe and sound. People always thought that he had supernatural powers, but Ji Gong thought about how to build the Great Compassion Building.
VIII. Rebuild the Great Compassion Building by gathering good deeds
Ji Gongyun travels to the people, exorcises demons, punishes evil and promotes good, administers medicine to save people, and purifies all sentient beings. When they learned of Ji Gong's vows, they helped each other, gave heavy sums of money, and rebuilt the Great Compassion Building. On the day of the pillar, all the good rejoice.
Nine-ten, Yunlin Victory Map
Lingyin was founded by the Indian monk Huili in 326 in the first year of the Eastern Jin Dynasty. Although it has risen and fallen several times, it has a long history and a magnificent scale, and the solemn temple is in harmony with the flying peak in front of the temple.
11. Protectors of the Dharma
Lingyin Temple rebuilt the Great Compassion Building, and when it was close to completion, Qin Xiangfu wanted to build the Pavilion Heavenly Tower in urgent need of wood. The four butlers passed on Qin Xiang's edict that they wanted to forcibly demolish the Great Compassion Building, and Ji Gong showed his miraculous powers to beat the evil slaves. Qin Xiang sent troops to surround Lingyin and arrest Ji Gong, and the monks were killed, and Ji Gong played a trick to capture the fast bantou and drunkenly entered the Xiang Mansion.
12. The Dharma casts down demons
Ji Gong cast spells to make a big fuss in Xiang Mansion, and all the Ding Clans beat Ji Gong Shi with Qin Xiang's body. At night, the ghosts haunt the Qin mansion, and the inner courtyard catches fire. Qin Xiang dreamed of ghosts and gods, and when he saw his biological father suffering in hell, he advised him to abandon evil and follow good, and accumulate good deeds. Qin Xiang had an epiphany, recognized JiGong as a substitute for the monks, and funded the reconstruction of the Great Compassion Building, and all the monks were released.
13. Ancient wells transport wood
Ji Gong moved Xi Jing Ci, the Jing Ci Monastery was burned, and the abbot ordered Ji Gong to raise wood to rebuild the main hall. After Ji Gong was drunk, he went to Shuzhong with a tendon, turned into wood, and drifted down the Yangtze River to the East China Sea and then drifted into the Qiantang River, encountering obstacles. Ji Gong then performed a magic trick to transport the wood out of the well of the temple.
Fourteen, eight demons refining
The Eight Devils' Fury Swinging Demon Fire Golden Light Array refines Ji Yao, which is the ordeal test that Ji Yao must go through on the path to becoming a Buddha.
Fifteen, the Buddha's tales from all over the world
The Descending Dragon Arhat completed his goodness and virtue in the world, and wrote a poem of his death:
So he closed his eyes and lowered his eyebrows. The crowd prayed with incense, and each of them told the magic of the Day of Justice, and they were overwhelmed with sighs. On the day of the funeral, the drums were noisy, the tiger ran the mountain, and the ashes were placed in the tower, and the arhat took the dragon and left.
Sixteen, six and the tower after the silence of the miraculous
After Ji Gongyuan died, he reappeared at the Liuhe Pagoda, and when he met two young monks, he sent a letter of books and a pair of shoes to two young monks to the elders of Jingci Temple. This pair of shoes was taken out and worn by the elder himself when Ji Gong was dying, and it was obviously burned, and after Ji Gong died, he appeared to the spirit and returned the original, and the elder was horrified.
Seventeen, Tiantai Nanyue old home style
When the Qiantang pawn crossed the Tiantai Road and met Ji Gong, he sent two poems and the elders of the Jingci Temple:
The sail flew over the east of Zhejiang, looking back at the building in the desert.
Passed on to the mountain poets and drinkers, Hugh will be limited and hate infinitely.
The feet are tightly tied and hated endlessly, and the bamboo sticks pick up the clouds into the chaotic peaks.

18. Merit is fully attributed to the stone beam
Daoji Zen master, known as Jigong, commonly known as Li, is a native of Tiantai, Zhejiang. When Ji Gong was born, the statue of the Descending Dragon Arhat in the Luohan Hall of the Tiantai Guoqing Temple suddenly fell, and the people thought that Ji Gong was the reincarnation of the Descending Dragon Arhat, and now that his merits were complete, he returned to the Tiantai Shiliang Arhat Dojo.
