The ancient wonder Göbeklitepe, known as the "starting point of history", was discovered in Şanlıurfa in Turkey, and as such, the city reveals the history of the Neolithic age. The southeastern province is now on its way to becoming a hub that reveals human history, with other sites including Karahantepe and Gobekli Stonehenge dating back to the same period.

The new research center in Chamleupf will carry out Neolithic research

While artifacts unearthed during ongoing archaeological excavations at the Chamleurfa site provide important data for the scientific community, especially on the Neolithic period, a new research center will also welcome scientists who want to conduct research in the area. The Ministry of Culture and Tourism and the Directorate General of Cultural Heritage Museums have announced plans to establish a Neolithic research center in the region.

Celal Uludağ, director of the Archaeological Museum of Chamleur-Urfa, reiterated in an interview with the Anadolu News Agency (AA): "Gobekli Stonehenge has changed the way we tell history and reinterpreted it. Prior to the archaeological discovery of Gobekli Stonehenge, academics believed that humans began to build temples after adopting a sedentary lifestyle, abandoning the hunter-gatherer lifestyle; however, the oldest temple and settlement in human history, Gobekli Stonehenge, was built by hunter-gatherer communities before they began to engage in agriculture. ”

Uluda said: "With the discovery and excavation of the Karahantepe site, the unanswered questions in Gobekli Stonehenge have found answers. For example, people question whether Gobekli Stonehenge has living space, and studies of Carahantepe reveal the existence of such spaces. All of these types of new discoveries have attracted the world's attention, and with the excavation of Gobekli Stonehenge, Karahantepe and other sites, Turkey and Shangleurfa will have the ability to become the neolithic capital of the world. In particular, plans are being made for the World Neolithic Congress to be held here in 2023. Therefore, it is very important to create a place where scientists work. The data obtained from mining will be stored and scientists will have access to information and files. The Neolithic Research Center will serve this purpose. ”
