The Hong Kong Customs and Excise Department set up the first firearms search dog team

Hong Kong, 15 Dec (China News Service) -- The Hong Kong Customs announced on 15 December that it has officially established the first firearms search dog team to further strengthen the ability of the customs to intercept illegal firearms, gun parts and ammunition flowing into Hong Kong at the front line, prevent terrorist activities, protect citizens' lives and safeguard national security.

Following the successful self-breeding of working dogs last year, the Customs and Excise Department of Hong Kong has trained firearm search dogs and lead dogs on their own, so that in addition to their ability to sniff drugs, explosives and banknotes, they can also intercept illegal firearms, firearm components and ammunition, setting an important milestone for the search dog profession.

Huang Xixin, supervisor of the Hong Kong Customs And Quarantine Dog Search Department, said at a press conference on the 15th that in recent years, criminals have disassembled or separated different parts of firearms, and then falsely reported them as machine parts and toys and other items, and then smuggled them into Hong Kong using parcels or express delivery goods.

It is reported that the newly established firearms search dog team of the customs has a total of four squads, each team consists of a dog leader and a search dog. Firearms search dogs can assist customs officers in making rapid and effective assessments of a large number of parcels and courier goods, which, together with intelligence analysis, risk management and a variety of advanced instruments and equipment, will further strengthen the law enforcement capacity and clearance efficiency of maritime border crossings.

At present, the gun search dog team has been dispatched to different freight control stations on duty, which has greatly enhanced the overall detection capability of the customs search dog team, fully supported the work of customs personnel in preventing smuggling, counter-terrorism and protecting national security, and checked for Hong Kong.
