In the early morning of December 13, Beijing time, this season's Speed Skating World Cup Canada stood in Calgary for the last matchday. In the men's 1000m Group A final, China's Ning Zhongyan won the championship in 1:06.656 and set a personal best.

Compared with the main event 1500 meters, Ning Zhongyan did not have an absolute strength advantage in 1000 meters. In Calgary, though, 22-year-old Ning Zhongyan showed excellent form. In the race, Ning Zhongyan set off with Japan's Ryota Kojima in group 5, he established the lead after starting, then slid faster and faster, and finally crossed the finish line with 1:06.656 seconds, which not only allowed him to win the gold, but also refreshed his personal best and national record!

After winning the gold medal at this station, Ning Zhongyan also secured the qualification for the men's 1000 meters at the Beijing Winter Olympics.
