According to "India Today" and Indian TV News Station, on the 8th local time, an Indian Army helicopter crashed in the southern state of Tamil Nadu, with 14 passengers on board, including India's first chief of defense, Bipin Rawat, his wife and a number of Indian officers. Eleven people have been killed so far, and Rawat has nearly 80 per cent burns all over his body and is currently being treated at a military hospital in Wellington. According to reports, Rawat also experienced a helicopter crash 6 years ago and survived the air crash.

Many people reported widespread and severe burns. Witnesses at the scene said the plane hit a tree and caught fire, and several people fell from the plane. A former pilot of the Mi-17 helicopter said the cause of the accident could be bad weather in the mountains or a technical failure.
Rawat reportedly survived a helicopter crash in 2015 in The Mapur, Bangdi Marpur, northeastern Nagaland.
